4G is what you will need. But Verizon is constantly expanding it. Best for national coverage.imo

Its "less than load (truckload)" - its a good higher paying field to shoot for after you've had a year or so OTR fun!

There's a few LTL jobs around for new drivers; just depends on where you live; city/state.

Ok so first off, I do exactly what you say you want. I drive primarily at night, just realize it's not always possible. Your load schedule dictates. But probably 80% if my driving is night. That being said, I've been doing this a long time and able to drive for who I want to, not who will take me.

Something that you aren't taking into account, because you just don't know to consider, is power for gaming. That is going to be your biggest hurdle as a rookie driver. Most of the megas do not have an all apu fleet. Many of them won't allow an inverter bigger than you can plug into a cigarette lighter. Without an apu, you'll have to idle your truck for extended periods, a big no no these days.

Check out the electronic connection forums here for more on internet possibilities.

I don't know if my answers will help you but ...

Find another line of work to get into, I don't want some driver who has spent the night/day messing around with games to the point that they can't drive safely. In the past week or so, we heard plastered on the news about an accident that killed some entertainer and hurt another - it is sad that they get hurt/killed but it could have been prevented, I wonder if the driver was gaming?

I don't know, I don't think you should as a new driver, but that's me. Freedom is objective to the person who hired you.

It does to the point that you have to 'disconnect the clutch' to shift, but got to tell you, shifting a truck is too easy, it should be harder but isn't.

I don't see why you would think I would do that. You don't know me, nor do you know my habits. I do spend extended hours at the computer right now, but I'm not dumb enough to play a game to the point of exhaustion, and then try to drive. I'm sure a lot of Truckers do exactly what you fear, watching films, browsing the internet (perhaps this forum), or doing anything else they find interesting - to the point of exhaustion. If do you don't think they would be a danger on the road due to their hobby, I don't see why you think I would be due to mine.

Also, I highly doubt the driver was gaming. I've honestly never heard of someone playing a game to the point that they can't drive safely, and then drive. More than likely he was either messing with some bit of electronics in his cab, or maybe it was just road hypnosis causing him to not pay attention. No idea about the situation you're mentioning though, so I can't quite comment. But it sounds like you're speculating as much as I am right now.

Regardless of me disagreeing with you on that point, your post was quite helpful. Thank you!
