True ... If we're not careful and we keep making such goofy statements we'll all end up in team configurations or not driving, one or the other. BanditTrucker needs to look at this how the public and bureaucrats will see this issue ... they will get the sense "teaming" is [should be] "safer" if they are given the opportunity to consider team vs solo. And you can bet carriers see the benefits of teams vs solos, whether the freight and miles support teams or not is irrelevant from upper management standpoint, it's no matter of concern for them that 2 drivers together will be paid less then 2 drivers separate, and can better/easier meet ever-demanding customer appointment requirements (JIT)

Florida is notorious for early morning fog....but since the truck was doing 70 when it collided I would suppose the driver had good visibility, why else would he be doing 70? If he had good visibility, then the next question would be, did the first driver have his 4-ways on as he was attempting to accelerate. Merging into the lane of travel from a dead stop requires about a 5000 ft to achieve full speed when loaded ( stay on the shoulder until you reach at least 45 MPH with 4-ways on, then gradually merge into the lane while checking the left mirror every three seconds).
Apparently, the driver(team truck) failed to slow down or move over for a slower moving vehicle. Either way it's sad day for the two hard working men and their families.

Apparently I missed the follow up story where the FHP said that seat belts wouldn't of helped. Yes, I may of been assuming, but it's an assumption based on statistical facts. They were both ejected from the vehicle at 70 mph. Statistically you have a better chance remaining in the vehicle. That being said, I haven't seen any pictures other than what was in the original post, nor am I a qualified accident investigator.
Irregardless, my condolences to the families of yet another avoidable tragedy. -
Sorry to hear that if it was guys you know.
We've teamed safe for years - but its not an environment that promotes rested drivers.
But no more regulations . . . PLEASE !!! -
