Lease payments are 100% deductable as a business expense. If you purchase a truck, interest on the loan is deductable. The rest of your deduction then is depreciation on the value of your truck (i.e. - each month it becomes worth less, that amount it becomes worth less is the deduction. There is a specific formula for this).
I've had an accounting background, so I'm not talking out my back-side. Others may want to chime in with their specifics.

I enjoy reading your thread Jar-Head I do appreciate when a fellow Patch member contributes in the name of helping and doesn't try and be negative all the time. It's great to see fellow driver's who are successful and are proud of it. Carry on...
Bigman251, flatbedder4life, Dogals right foot and 1 other person Thank this. -
I keep seeing that "Company Choice" and it has me wondering if they are still going to pay mileage on it. Will you have the option of do it or not doing it. I would go bat*crazy* with it. But it really makes me wonder if its a way to passive aggressively coerce company drivers of to Choice I/C. I mean "hey look, you already know how to do the load boards, look at how much money you'll make having your own business" I've been told that they are going to be pushing the I/C part of the company really, really hard. I'm just hoping that they don't adopt the CR England philosophy.
That being said. Following all these different threads and how Jar-head and others flat out go out of their way to help and to train, it has really made me start thinking about it myself. I really enjoy talking to other I/C's and for the most part they are almost all willing to sit and talk. It's interesting to see the difference between the ones that are consistently one paycheck away from losing their business, to the ones that are growing and evolving their business. I believe that I could run the truck and plan it profitably.
What frightens me is the Mechanical side of it. I carry tools and duct tape. But I don't know how to fix alot of stuff of there that I probably should after being behind the wheel for almost 10 years and I believe that is what would make me fail.Bigman251 Thanks this. -

I don't see how company drivers picking their own loads would work just due to the nature some loads would never get taken especially during the winter month's
