i beleive there is a sign they switch from open to close to open. it hangs on the main sign if i remember right. been a few months.
the 550 into new mexico is also like that. and it's not a scale. but a checkpoint. usually closed but once in a blue moon. if highway patrol has nothing to do. he will man that station. the office is empty. it's more of a field. there's a sign, but nothing to indicate open or close. unless he's open. then he puts up a little sign. they took out some of the signs though. used to be 4 i think. now there's only 1, maybe 2. don't travel that road as much as i used to.
better not say you didn't see the sign though. the cops will tell you, as a commercial driver. it's your responsibility to pay attention and read ALL signs.

Used to be one on I-10 coming out of NM into Texas, Vado I think....very rarely anyone ever there on the east-bound side....was running with a group one night , they all decided to just wind it up and ride by.....me , being the law-abiding fellow I am....I swung into the scale....only to be blessed out by a very angry little man , who said he was sleeping.....guess what happened after that......

Us 30 eastbound in Ohio, near Van Wert, there is a scale and it's usually open, sometimes all night. It's well marked IMO.
Turnpike has scales at the toll booths, but unless you are way over, they only charge more, used to be able to cheaper empty or light but I think they removed that classification. -
Lake City FL US441. If you come off I10 and go south to Lake City they have signs displaying weigh station as you head south but the scale is on the other side for traffic heading north. It is a tiny scale house and I presume from the signs traffic both ways are to call in, looks like an area for an accident waiting to happen !
Each time i have passed it they have been closed. Today however I am heading south and see the scale is open I slow down to work out how to get in there and the State Trooper waves me on by.
Has anyone ever pulled in there traveling south ?
If so where do you enter, the exit for north bound traffic or do a sharp left turn and enter where the north bound traffic would enter ?
Very confusing, looks like an area waiting for an accident ! -

I went be one in Tenn on I40 east a few weeks ago... First sign said open, so got ready to exit, slowed down, cut the radio off, took off the sunglasses...and the next sign said closed. A guy on the CB said it's almost always closed but the sign blew to open a few months ago, and no one has gone out to flip it back to closed...lol

Start looking for cars in the weigh station.Sometimes they're hiding so we can't see them. But when in doubt pull in just to be on the safe side.
