How come when I go take my ten hour break it says I have 8 hours drive time when the ten hours isn't even up yet? Like nownitnsays I have 8 hours but I've only been in the sleeper 9hs and 37 min? If I were to start driving would I break the law? Or would it be legal and it just wouldn't give me another eight hours when I took my half hour break between the third and six hour driving( I believe it is)

Breaks within the first 8 hours. That's the whole point of eight hours. You'd have to take a 2 hour break. It's called a split. Don't try it unless you know what your doing.
-
It is actually a flaw in the system that they still have not corrected...and yes..the split sleeper can be confusing the way the rule is written now.
zoekatya Thanks this. -
Why do you say it's a flaw in the system? -
-
You drive a truck and dont know about the 8/2 split?
-
TwinStickPeterbilt and zoekatya Thank this.

There is no flaw in the quallcomm it is giving him hours back because it has showed an 8hr sleeper however if you leave before your ten you will have to take a 2 hour off duty break some were down the road to get all of your hours back but I agree with previous comment don't use the 8/2 split unless you fully understand it
zoekatya and Cranky Yankee Thank this. -
You are correct except the 2 hr break does not extend the 14 hr clock.. this is where many drivers get into trouble.
zoekatya and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Took me awhile to figure the 8/2 out and would never use it on paper logs. Bound to #### it up. Also only use it if you need to get somewhere within the time you gain back. Otherwise you only save 30 mins
