You have to understand how the GPS thinks in order to understand the decisions it makes. It does not see the road as you or I would.

you DO know we live in mexico. correct. english is the only language i grew up with. and was the only language when i was born. -
Also I've used a Garmin, McNally, and the terrible NAVIGO. It's almost a it between McNally and Garmin, but with Garmin you can update it through your Bluetooth connection to your phone. Both seem to have preloaded destinations for just about every store and truck stop in the nation.
McNally has less features, but is very durable.
Navigo is good, but not if you plan on trucking past 1999. -
ALK makes the Co-Pilot for your smartphone....Android, Apple & Windows phones. Haven't gotten it yet, but am strongly considering it. Like the fact it doesn't require a big data plan (unless you get the live update feature)...it downloads to your phone. And at $149.99, I like the price better than the traditional GPS.

the apps are free, don't know what $2 apps your looking. but there aren't a gazillion.
all the fancy features the hand units can do. has an app, for free on your phone.
there's only 3 app for gps. and all 3 download maps to the phone so internet is not required. they are basic apps, yes, but all the other features that make a gps nice. are free on the phone.
copilot truck rungs $150. sygic truck runs $100. and has very nice animation. truck gps(aponia) is free . as of now.
i've used copilot since i came out on the road 3 1/2 years ago. i'm playing around with sygic (car) and truck gps. -
I've had my Rand McNally TND 520 for about 3 weeks now. One reason you might find it routing you differently is because in preferences you have choices for "highways" All, Preferred, or none. Each choice you make will give you a different route. When I don't like the route given I go and make a change and it seems to work out ok more times than not. Either way when I am in the middle of the city and have no idea which way is up or down it sure is great to hear that voice saying "turn left in 1/4 mile". I have the Traffic option which I have yet to find helpful. I also have the weather option and I find it is great for showing the correct probability or weather. Of course it all boils down to the weatherman and if he is correct or not.
Also for the TND 520 I downloaded the Red Light cameras POI file from this link and it works great for inner city driving. (like Chicago)

Dieselboss Thanks this. -
I would strongly advise anyone to stay away from Rand McNally. I purchased a new TND 720 and after about 6 months it crashed, they rebuilt it, only to have it go down again in about the same time.
I then sent it back and was given a newly refurbished one, only to have it go down 2 days after receiving it. I contacted them and dealt with the most unprofessional individual ever who was very rude
and would not provide his supervisors name. They forget who makes their job possible. I will never use Rand McNally products ever again.
