thanks for all the info. I am on the fence on bringing on my own trailer i have a 2013 fontaine 51ft step deck with slide rear axle, but recruiter has said I will get stuck with a stepdeck in the winter. Also is freight steady enough year round to stay running basically south of I-40 prefer to run in between arizona and georgia, but willing to go where the money is, except california.

If you already own the step...but are afraid of not being able to stay busy in the winter... Why not start with what you already own? You can say, "I may not be able to stay quite as busy in the winter, but I will not need to work as hard because I will not have a trailer payment". Or, if you want a flat later you can try to find somewhere to trade your step, rather than getting a flat and then having two trailers.jtwhite Thanks this.

I hear ya man. I put on twenty pounds since leasing to Mercer. Guess that's the down side to not having to run my ### off just to squeeze a living in. Come to think of it, Mercer really has made me lazy and now fat!BAYOU Thanks this.

Ive lost 10lbs in two months working here. Was 6'2 250lbs.
I pull a step, I do worry a little about the winter. But honestly I think I will be fine. Im confident that there is enough step friendly flat loads out there.
Unloading in Ft. Drum at 0700, hopefully can find something worth hauling up here.
