Actually, we have actual trained diesel repair personnel, but(and this is my speculation) the same person (department) that hires shop people, also hires the people who make the plastic, sweep the floor, or engineer new products. Therein lies the problem. Someone who is in charge of a shop should have some input as to the person being hired to work for him. I bet my last dollar that if the Uranium 238 demodulator(borrowed technology from Marvin the Martian) or the gerfrigin deflatchulator (a made up word for a machine used in the manufacturing process that I know nothing about)...if it kept breaking down, the same way, over and over, they'd have a new hard hat wearing tool belt toter on that machine in a second.

The management appears to be totally entrenched,
    nobody's going nowhere.
    Its a corporation
    Not a trucking company.
If it were mom and pop outfit
    heads would roll.
Its hard to remember , Poly isn't like
any one else or a " regular " trucking company.
I myself need to stop looking at them through the
lens of a trucking company and see them as they are in reality.

I think you have the wrong idea about our department..have you ever heard of a little son-of-a-buck outfit called the IRS?. It is a commonly held belief that we are a tax deduction producing department...paying us helps us...and helps the company keep from giving a lot of money to the biggest money wasting entity on the planet...as in the federal government. If they employ us, we work for it...if they give it to the IRS...they just give it to people sitting on their butt with their hand out or they spend it on a study to find out where excess government spending is going.

Besides, in todays trucking market with fuel prices the way they are...freight rates are probably in the $2.50-$3.00/mile for outside carriers...that's why we have an 8000 mile/month requirement. That covers expenses...both fixed and variable.

    Thats incredible
Poly Trucking must be one heck of a valueable write off for PA if that's the case.

A mom and pop trucking company with equipment troubles equal to Polys would
be belly up in a very short amount of time.

    this outfit is unique

Poly makes their money on the finished product. Poly Trucking was the 'baby' of the original owner who passed away a number of years ago. His pride in our equipment is why we don't have stuff hanging off the back and go to the truck wash twice a month. Too bad that pride didn't carry over to the equipment we are driving today...but at least a clean and shiny truck looks good on the back of the wrecker or sitting in the dealership waiting on repairs.

Speaking of equipment...my mpg's have gotten bad. Between GP and Albuquerque, 4.8...between Albuquerque and Kingman, 3.9 (I filled a 2nd time just to see if it improved any, it ran a little better today).

And...Poly West had my Tuesday load already loaded...so no siesta at the Fiesta for me.

Smaller. If/when you head there just remember, they don't have fuel. The Pilot or T/A in Vegas or the Love's in Kingman are our closest fuel stops
