You'll notice I didn't totally disagree w/your hurricane statement.....And Disney has been there for decades now also...so it don't mean much.....if you knew the area before the rat and ensuing invasion&destruction of a once beautiful area....you'd understand.....&4 the record both sides of my family pre date statehood by a generation or 2

Ummm... I think there is a bit more to just slowing down and being careful. Use your engine brakes on the lowest setting, practice putting on your chains while the weather is nice, carry a small cheater pipe to go over the cam key will help you tighten your chains easier, run at higher RPMs when pulling empties, a five lbs mallet is your best friend for unlocking brakes, sliding your fifth wheel forward can give you a 1K lbs gain on your steers, ride your brakes occasionally during thick snow covered roads... those are all helpful hints I did not see on here yet. -
Thanks to responses everyone. And yes road runner, this thread kinda did get jacked. I'm not sure how we went from talking about winter driving at night with doubles to Disney, but it's kinda funny though. Lol

I pull for a grocery chain in the Northeast. The saying is Grocery has got to go. I hate that saying. That is why I am trying to transfer to an over the road position.

First off under the surface transportation act of 1985 a company can not force a driver to drive in bad weather as long as the driver has done their duty to determin it is unsafe I have been a linehaul for a while and there was several times on my run I had to cancel going to fargo because of the bad weather and your employer under penalty of law can not force you if you claim protection under this act look it up it also protects you if your ill or if your equipment is unsafe

No kidding. Another poster was saying some saia drivers got fired for not running in some bad weather. Wonder if they have the option of legal action. I would think that the companies with no union would have an easier time getting rid of guys who refuse to run in bad weather as opposed to the companies that do have a union.

actuallly there was a few legal cases where drivers had won substatial money I read one guy not only got re instated on his job and they had to pay him 5 years of wages and had to remove all negative remarks on his record

I know this happened to a guy running a Wamsutter turn out of Denver for UPS. He shut down due to weather, and when he got back to Denver they local manager fired him. Cost that manager his job, and UPS some big bucks by the time it was over with.
OTOH, bosses can make your life a living hell, in so many ways. So if you are going to play the "it ain't legal for you to make me do that" card, be prepared to deal with the consequences.
