Make sure it is away from any Dash Cams. Sometimes "right out of the box" it may take an hour or several to acquire GPS. I would just leave it on and let it set for a few hours. Then go to Preferences/General/GPS Status - Used should be 4 or greater and DOP should be below 2. Most times DOP is below 1.

Let me know if it still does not pick up.

CB radios will also interfere with GPS's.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Do a back up on the Dock and then a restore to the 520 from the Dock. It will note you have a different model, but click OK on that.

    Thanks,

I will have to check on that. I do suspect it what is at the booth for the Toll Cost.

    Thanks,

Low is based on maximum discounts at least expensive time of day, high based on price without discounts.

    Thanks,

Take it back and get a full refund or partial if that's all they will give you. You'll be money ahead. And a lot less frustration. For a GPS made by a map maker. It really does have a lot of roads out of date. I get the same or better routing out of my phone.

Your phone will not take into account truck restrictions. If you find a road missing, then let me know. You mentioned "a lot of roads out of date", so you must own a TND. What model? It could be you are not on the most current maps. Maps will never be 100% correct. I have access to the most current live maps on a daily basis. Let me know what road is missing and I can verify if it is on the latest maps on the TND and on HERE.

And yes I will take the flak for the maps not being updated yet on the 510/710 (if LTM) and the 520/720 models. I truly apologize for the delay in RM not releasing them as of yet. I do not have a published date yet as to when. Again, truly sorry. :smt102

    Thanks,
    Mark

My phone may not use truck dimensions for routing decisions. The 720 has not been 100% accurate using these parameters either. IF I need to research route the 720 gives me what is the advantage to have this equipment.
It is better to use routing in phone (free) than pay to use 720 and not know the route is safe for bridge clearance. I have used for higher than legal settings. Twice I had to pucker up and run my permit route even though the 720 was whining away in the background about a low obstruction. I went dead ahead slow and puckered up. Not nice.
I understand in the past using the paper map was not as accurate as GPS's.
Running from Rosemount, MN. to Pontiac, IL. my phone gave me a shorter/faster route than the 720. The 720 wanted to run me down the 2 lane roads toward the quad cities in IA. My phone down I-90, I-39. Hour faster miles were about the same. Used same settings on both software applications.
Question: Does RM make a cord that plugs into the data/power receptacle. I use the cigarette lighter cord for power. Instead of having to unplug this cord in the back of display, is there a cord that will come apart by the power plug so I don't have to remove from display to use as data transfer from/to my laptop.

The power cord accessory package is what you want, it can be purchased at most truckstops that have the rand McNally display center

Freeways prefer had me onto I-494 (MN) to I-94 (MN) to I-94 (WI) to I-39 (WI) to I-39 (IL) to I-55 (IL). Your settings under Preferences/route will make a huge difference in how the TND will route you.

Phone does not take into account STAA or Non-STAA, weight, height, and other truck parameters.

Again, if you know of any instance of a False restriction, by all means let me know where. The data cannot be verified and corrected if needed if all I get from users is that it warned me off a low clearance that was not there.

I would not suggest the "All in One" kits for the TND's. These kits were made for other electronic items.

A lot goes into the GPS either RM's or anybody else's. The Map data is very complex in that it takes into account a lot of variables that will determine how the router in the GPS will plan the route.

You see a road, the GPS see a lot of variables for each segment of the road and has to determine based upon your truck settings how it will route you on a safe truck legal route.

Map data will never be 100%. It is a time consuming process from construction to the final project completion to getting it into the state networks up to federal networks into the Map data.

As mentioned before, give me details on items that give a "false" warning, roads that are not correct or roads missing, etc.

A lot will depend on what mapset you have. If you have the 720, did you update to the last set of maps last year? I know the current one has not been released yet.

    Thanks,
    Mark
