Take over my Swift Lease

Thanks for the input. Yeah my recruiter from Swift is out of Phoenix and she was saying that after my cdl class I go over the road with my mentor for 4-6 weeks and after that I would need to decide if I want to do a lease when I go solo. I appreciate the firsthand experiences instead of just a straight bashing.

 

Mentor? Is that what Swift calls their "trainers" now? LOL! Seriously, my best advice to you is to spend 2-3 years running as a company driver, and make your mistakes (and you will), and learn from them. Then you'll be in a much better position to decide if you're ready to take the next step. Oh yeah, 11C mortar maggot here.

 

I don't know about you, but I rather mess up in their equipment rather than my own. Than once I straightened out all of the kinks, than go buy that nice new truck! lol

The #1 job you have before considering any lease is to see if you can make it through all four seasons, including winter, as a truck driver. Next year at this time you'll be in a much better position to see if you're a candidate for a lease. Until then, stay safe and financially secure (as much as you can be! lol) as a company driver and learn how to deliver loads on time.

 

I talked to a couple of people around me who have successfully leased trucks but only from companies where they could lease the truck on with other carriers like Landstar. The lease option isnt something im even considering. I would be more apt to buying a good used truck outright, and then signing it on with a carrier. At least then either no payments, or lower payments via a financing option. Im still a few years away from even considering taking the jump into a purchase.

To the OP, it sucks that you fell for the Swift fleece. I think you wouldve been far better off just doing as others suggested.

 

I don't think his previous employer can say anything negative or how much he was paid. All they can do is confirm he worked there.

What 1 month? I do around 11k-13k monthly.. They should make it a year requirement so maybe drivers have a little more of an idea of what there about to do... But what do I know!
