I'm a Marine vet and just finished training with Millis Transfer at their new training center in Eden NC. They are very vet friendly and so far everything they have promised they have kept their word. Vets get a big discount on the schooling and Millis is a great company to get started with. There was two vets in my class of 5.

sorry i wont be going with them. The lady i talked to was very intruding and wanted to know why i was hospitaled through the VA and saying i wasnt healthy. She was persistent to know why and i tried giving her a general answer. She kept going so i finally said due to PTSD and believe me she couldnt get off the phone fast enough. That was a few days ago and havent heard back from them..By law i never signed any consent form for her to ask so many questions about my medical history and so on..She violated HIPPA and i could report her but not going to..

I think if I were to go the flatbed route, Melton is looking as a good company. AS Millis is nice, they do not offer the apprenticeship pay through the VA the last time I checked. still keeping my options open to flatbed as well.

Ok here is another question. If you have been DX with PTSD, how do handle answering it if asked? Im off all of my meds and all i do is go to counseling once a week, thats just because that is what i feel i need right now. Been dealing with this for almost 2 years now..

I don't know the details of it but I know Boyd Bros has a Vet program as well. You might call and ask them about it. Their trucks are 2013-15 Internationals with APU's. I know they recently instituted a pay scale raise as well. Last I knew was .38cpm to start (out of school) not counting tarps and bonus'.
Good luck with whatever company you choose and thanks for your service. -
Thanks DG, I will look in to them..They dont sound all that bad, and pretty decent pay if you dont mind a little work..
Drivers girl Thanks this. -

man sorry to hear about your experience with Millis, so far they have been very good to me, but I wish they would have had a paid apprenticeship program. And as one vet to an other while I dont the exact experience you had while you where in, but I understand that we all have baggage coming back home. It is good to hear that your moving in a positive direction.Rocko28 Thanks this. -
Rotor, thanks brother...Yea i was frustrated at first, but hey its only one company. There are others out there..Im not to worried about it..Thanks for the encouragement just trying to make a better life for me and my family..
Rotorzilla Thanks this. -
Roehl was my #2 choice coming out of CDL school. They are a very good starter company - decent pay and good equipment. They are also one of the few companies that offer a 24 month VA OJT Apprenticeship Program. Spoke with several Roehl drivers at the local Pilot while attending school and they all said good things about the company. Have also heard good things about Millis Transfer but have not talked to anyone from the company or any of their drivers.
