Stop involving the warehouse mgr. Go strait to the yard dog. Its his frikin job, doubt he cares
Getsinyourblood Thanks this. -
why can't you drive into the "white space?"
-
White square? I can, but it wont help me get in 1 or 2.

Yeah that's a hard dock. Major tail swing. They should give sleeper trucks the far dock

Anyone else here on this thread, besides me, remember backing up one way Cobblestone streets the wrong way in lower Manhattan, and then have to blind side into a hole that was designed for single drive axle bullet noser's with 20 foot wagons ? All this with a highway tractor and a 53 footer ? I was one of the first to applaud NYC for finally re-re-enforcing the highway tractor and trailer rule in Manhattan. That said, I concur with most of the above comments regarding the full time yard mule. Regardless of how hard or easy it is to back a wagon into a dock, if the warehouse has a full time mule, then that's HIS job. Let him earn his keep. If he #######, then kindly advise him/her that if everyone handled their own wagons, his job would be obsolete, and thus eliminated. If he argues he's there to handle dropped trailers only ..... then drop yours and leave. JMHO

I wouldn't back in till bobtails move. I'd sit there. Could slip yard dog a 20 to do it or the less enviable blindside. Its pretty rough.

I don't hit docks often. Open deck. I would ask the yard dog do it.

Did this one the other day.
San Dieguito Printers in San Marcos, CA. Come in from the north (no trucks allowed coming in from the south even though the roads are passable for a big truck) drive past and blindside into the driveway (narrow street, cars parked on both sides) pull up and do a tight 90 left into the dock. Took me about 10 mins. The guy on the dock told me it's common to see people take an hour sometimes to get in. BTW there are usually 2 trailers parked opposite the dock near the driveway entrance instead of the one in the picture. Loads of fun with a 53' dry box.Attached Files:
