My company is not Swift. We use Qualcomm and I am a sys admin for it so I have access to all parts of the system. Vehicle positions lag an average of 20 minutes throughout the entire system. The messaging portion of the system also has a lag which can vary from one or two minutes to almost an hour or more. The document scanning portion of the system has lag of up to half a day from the time the driver scans the doc to the time they see it in the office.

I do work for Swift, and have seen them switch from the Q/C dispatch program to another, and get real time location of the vehicle.

That's something other than qualcomm then. Qualcomm doesn't do real time.

At the last company I worked for, we had at least THREE different tracking systems in our vehicles. All were independent of each other. One, which updated every half hour or so, could be "pinged" for a near real time position update.

It is naive to think 20 minute delays they have today will be in the future. How will they operate driverless trucks without real time video?

I would like to know how I can pull in to a truck stop, call my DM for fuel, and he has my EXACT location in less than a minute.
Hi, I could use some fuel.
OK, let's see, your at the TA in xxx city?
    Yup.
    OK, it's on the way.
In less than 30 seconds I'll usually receive the new fuel message.

    It's just that quick!

That is no 20 minute lag time, if you ask me.

    tangerineGT and scottied67 Thank this.

Lol there is no 20 min lag time. Like moose said I can stop call my dm ask for a new fuel route and have it sent to me in a matter of secends. At the the place I stop at Whole time to stop call dm get the msg pop up on my screen less then 3 min.

Also on the blue moon occasions that I call on road and get right thru no wait on phone, I give them my truck number then they say oh you at so and so place. There is a tire shop about 7 miles from there. So you telling me my android phone and Google maps can pinpoint me where am at in real time. but Qualcomm which use the same phone towers has 20min lag time... LoL

It depends on how the system is set up. Ours updates every 12-15 minutes but we can 'force' update when we ping.
But it doesn't have 'real time'. It only seems that way when big brother is looking.
