Con-way just recently changed their pay structure from 47 pay scales nation wide to 4 regionally. The east region has a current top scale of $25.41 and .6001/mile. The south is lower and OT after 50hrs a week.

Annual bid process based on seniority for either city or line haul.

I have worked for UPSF and Con-way, it's not perfect but it's called work so I expect some challenges.

Con-way spends $$$$ on equipment. Not the fastest trucks (only 65 mph) but nice.

I guess the money is relative to what your expenses are. I live comfortable, but I know some guys who make the same money and live above their means. I suspect it's relative everywhere.

Happiness is finding your grove and sticking with it.

My daily start time is 8am. I clock in at 7:30. By the time i hook up, check my freight etc i'm rolling out by 8. My first stop is usually 10 min from the terminal.
My area is the entire city i peddle in. my bid run requires a liftgate every day so i get a mix of residentials, retail, dock and inside deliveries. I average between
18-29 stops daily. i'm done when my trailer is full or there are no more pickups for me, usually no more than 9hrs

 

I was hired for a 9:30 start time. The stops can vary depending if it volume or peddle route. On my route I average 10-15 stops, and do about 110 miles per day. And most places won't let you switch over and keep seniority. Stay away from central though.

And I don't have kids so I can't answer that question.
