    Do you love your job?
Who is the best LTL to work for?
    Who has the best equipment?
    Who pays the best?

    Yes I do!

I have worked for UPSF and Con-way, it's not perfect but it's called work so I expect some challenges.

Con-way spends $$$$ on equipment. Not the fastest trucks (only 65 mph) but nice.

I guess the money is relative to what your expenses are. I live comfortable, but I know some guys who make the same money and live above their means. I suspect it's relative everywhere.

Happiness is finding your grove and sticking with it.

    ACH1130 and XFM2013

Thanks for the responses! They were both very thorough and helpful.

I am approx 30 mi from Grand Rapids MI. Here are the ones I know of for sure:

    USF Holland
    Saia
    OD
    UPSF
    FXF
    Central Transport
    Conway(I think)

I give up! If you don't tell what question I am forgetting to ask I will be up all night trying to think of it.:biggrin_25512:

One question that nobody has answered that I am most curious about is how many of you have or had younger kids like me while doing your LTL jobs? Did you ever see your kids during the week because of your hours or just on weekends? I am thinking that I would probably rather start with local PU&D and then move to line haul after my kids are older or even out of the house. Is this possible with most carriers and still carry your seniority? For the guys that do run local PU&D, do any of you have any sort of a set schedule(start time)?
I was also curious about how many stops you do in a day and how far(radius) from your warehouse you cover.

My daily start time is 8am. I clock in at 7:30. By the time i hook up, check my freight etc i'm rolling out by 8. My first stop is usually 10 min from the terminal.
My area is the entire city i peddle in. my bid run requires a liftgate every day so i get a mix of residentials, retail, dock and inside deliveries. I average between
18-29 stops daily. i'm done when my trailer is full or there are no more pickups for me, usually no more than 9hrs

I was hired for a 9:30 start time. The stops can vary depending if it volume or peddle route. On my route I average 10-15 stops, and do about 110 miles per day. And most places won't let you switch over and keep seniority. Stay away from central though.

And I don't have kids so I can't answer that question.

That sounds like one of my days now. We deliver anywhere from 10-18 stops and can drive up to 160 miles. About how long of a day is that for you?
