My truck was a previous lease turn-in truck. Went to the shop to have all the maintenance reports shown to me. Mostly they said the previous 'owner' had run out of fuel twice and they had to replace the passenger mirror. They didn't say why, but I figured the truck was in a wreck or backed into or something. The biggest problems I found at first was water leaking in really bad during rains and poor alignment. Turns out the front pass side leafs springs Ubolts were bent forward, again probably a result of the 'wreck' the truck was in that they did not tell me about.
My recommendation, if you are leasing a used truck Swift offers a 30 warranty, take it someplace and have them check it out top to bottom and front to back and make Swift pay for all work. What they typically do is slap brand new tires on turn in trucks and park them out on the line. It's the same thing as sweeping dirt under the rug.
I'm taking the L/P plunge

With the new contract, empty miles tickle me to death in laughter! Some of these loads I would've turned down in the past, with any deadheading. I just picked a load offer, after I empty out in Hermiston tomorrow, I get to deadhead 158 miles to Lewiston and haul 19k pounds 108 miles to Spokane...and then I leave for 10-13 days to go hunt.
Congrats on taking the plunge! It's not for everybody...but I hope that you will find it a good experience. -

Oem dealer would be a start......

Ask around, talk with. O/O's near you. The dealer may not be the best option. Begin a relationship with the best shop you can find. For any used truck purchase get a dyno test and oil analysis from "your" mechanic and have them do a full check. Have them give you a list of things Swift has to do before you take possession. Have them double check after Swift says the work is completed (even as a company driver many shops say they've done work that wasn't done).

I recall on mine a heater control valve busted and a road service came out and bandaged (had heat but it was max heat, not adjustment) it up for $1100 bucks which Swift had to pay. Got back home and put it in their shop for a week along with the remaining parts of the broken heater control valve. Came back to work, it was springtime, weather warming up. Bunk A/C worked fine but cab A/C came out 85 degrees. Suffered with that all summer til the next spring. Finally put em in a KW shop and the guy showed me the mangled bandaged up heater control valve that was still in there that the road service had done. Basically the heat was on full and the A/C was mixing with the heat. Swift had had my truck in their shop for 4 days of the 7 days I was home, and did absolutely nothing. What you need is a whole bunch of cash in the bank to pay your bills back home while you keep resubmitting your truck back to the Swift shop and insist they fix those things you want. When they don't do it, simply resubmit truck to shop and file a written grievance with the terminal manager and Rapid Response.Broccelli Thanks this.
