Thanks for the replies, Im hibernating at the Petro till early morning.
Got the deal squared away with broker, got loaded but out of time for the day and too much of an electronic and paper trail today to play fly by night cowboy. No hurries no worries.

I used to stop at Truck Town in Fontana. It is at the Cherry Street exit. Part of the lot is dirt, but they have a restaurant on the premises. Not the greatest food, but they didn't charge to park the last time I was there.

I use to park at the flying j in bartsow. and then cruise in to la kick the load off and get out before the nut jobs woke up and stopped up the roads. t/a west hasn't changed in years. so it is still the same crap hole it's always been. the only thing that has changed at t/a west or east. other then east is now called petro. it costs $20.00 a day to park there. that's a big jump from the $10 or $12 it use to be. they keep the parking lot cleaner. I guess they don't want drivers using receipts they find on the ground to skip paying the parking fee.

Why do you guys call those truck stops crap holes? When I drove I found them very nice and enjoyed camping out there. The food is decent and the showers are nice and there is almost never a shower wait due to them having so many showers. The fact you have to pay to park shouldn't be an issue if you drive for a decent company who understands and will reimburse you.
Milkman719 Thanks this. -
The Petro (old TA East) is decent and I've never had a problem there. There isn't really anywhere for people to park like idiots so getting in and out isn't usually an issue. And I don't have to pay their insane parking fees because I usually get a meal, whatever drinks I want to have in my cooler and a few packs of cigarettes since they're kinda cheap... usually gets over their $20 threshold pretty easily.
TA (west) on the other hand is a permanent cluster #### all around... starting with the fuel islands I.e. the ONLY way onto the lot. People block up the fuel lanes to go eat and it's not uncommon to have a simple 50 gallon fuel stop take an hour from start to finish (and no I'm not exaggerating). People park all over the #### place and if security doesn't catch you in the act of parking like an idiot they ignore you and the fact that you're probably blocking about 5 trucks. Also, hopefully you don't mind being stared at like you're about to shove any available merchandise into your pocket... in store security assumes every customer is a thief and treats you accordingly. So yeah, I would call it a craphole. -
there is an exit that's under construction. i could be wrong but i thnk it was cherry. been couple of months. NOT your most truck friendly exit off the highway. i took the WHOLE intersection and still managed to bend a trailer rim on some brand new curb just laid out. it was dry but still green.
on another note. if your heading up the 15, cajoun scales close at 9. IF they're even open. they've been closed a lot lately. your free to roam and park elsewhere.I Drive Thanks this. -
Cherry Street is where you get off for the Peterbilt dealership. If you are going up I-15, you could stop at the Pilot in Hesperia. There is a good restaurant next door. Plenty of parking at this Pilot. It is a little closer than Barstow. At Barstow you could also park at the TA, formerly Rip Griffin. I used to stay at Barstow or Hesperia rather than the truck stops at Ontario, unless I was picking up or delivering closer to LA.
You mentioned the scales a Cajoun. There used to be a diner just north of the scales that had pretty decent food and you could park a few trucks long enough to eat. -
Cherry Street IS the one under construction right now, blinking red light, so during rush hour, it's massively delayed. Also, the truck stop just north of the freeway is now an empty lot, no parking there at all due to the construction, and I suspect, (haven't taken the time to look for signs with what's happening at that address,) that it's closed for good.

We always parked at the Petro. Clean place we always found a good parking spot.

As far as the pay for parking, 50 gals of fuel gets you 24 hrs of free parking. Or have receipts showing you spent @20-25 in the store, restaurant or shop. I usually ask the waitresses if they have any receipts someone left so I get up to the needed amount. They have always helped me out.
