    I think the DMV has screwed me again. I passed my drive test yesterday and was issued a temporary CDL. I've passed the tankers, doubles/triples, and hazmat written tests, but on my license it only lists T & X. Shouldn't it be --T X N? N is for tankers right?

    T= Doubles/Triples - Trailers
    X= Hazardous Materials and Tank

    N is for tank but it's not used since you got X. The X endorsement is handy because hazmat and tank often go together.

    hmm you've got me wondering, I just went through the process of renewing my CDL, only had to take a hazmat written test to renew the endorsement. I'm wondering if they will 'grandfather' in my tanks and doubles endorsements now.

    They should. I haul fuel and when I renew my cdl all I have to do is retake the hazmat test. You shouldn't have to retake any tests other than hazmat. Once you have air brakes, tanker, doubles/triples those are permanent and all you should have to do is pay the endorsement fee for each to renew.

    Spring 2010, expires on my birthday next month. They did give me a paper temporary licence that is good for 60 days but not for hazmat. Hopefully the background check goes through pretty quick and the DMV gets the new license in the mail before Christmas

    When you renew your hazmat do you have to pay for a background check again?
