Random LTL Rants (all are welcomed)

I couldn't tell you with all the small pallets that the jack couldn't fit under. My old route had tons of snow blowers and almost everyday I'd have to have the dock guys strip out anywhere from 4 to 10'ofnthem and put skids under as all those power equipment stores never had docks.

I pi miss some stops I used to go go, but don't miss the mental aggravation and sitting in traffic all day. Also nice working 6:30-3 mon-fri

 

Perhaps I'm using the wrong term here. What I'm talking about are gaylord size boxes, (HEAVY DUTY cardboard, YES CARDBOARD,) nailed to pallets with 2500 to 3000 pounds of "decorative rocks" in them. Nose loaded, and customer has no dock, so you have to tailgate everything. It isn't too bad if you are on a flat surface. You can't use chains and/or pallet pullers because you will destroy the shipping carton or pallet.

 

You have to be kidding! The dock guys are WAY to busy to do that. Drinking coffee, standing around scratching their crotch or whatever.

 

Kinda glad we don't have permanent dock staff. Right now we have 5 people, 1st shift is various people being voluntold /volunteering. 2 shift has 3 drivers that royally focked up getting DUI's over the summer.

2nd shift is exactly how you describe right now. Drinking coffee, Molesting their nuts.

 

Try shredded magazines in gay lords. A two foot tall stack of magazines weights say 60 lbs or more. Shredded still weights the same but now is a double hand full! Now fill that box with 2 yards of the stuff. Paper can be some of the lightest, or the heaviest thing you can haul. Have had 45 ft trailers weigh 156k , with paper scrap.

 

So who all had to run over the four day weekend? Conway had off but I heard rumor they were going to have runs over the weekend. I was surprised to see ABF running on thanksgiving day and OD running on Friday.

 

got back from Seattle (3000 miles in 73 hours team route, sucked) at midnight wednesday. slept until 9am thanksgiving, went to dinner with parents, went back to bed at 5:30pm and left for the terminal at 1:30am friday but someone was "off for thanksgiving" Got home sunday at 9am.
still running because most people can't manage their hours very well and everyone missed their sunday reset.

On the plus side i think I get "holiday pay" (like $150) but even without that I made like 1800 for the week.

 

Perhaps you should have shown him how fires can be made from pallets!
