Try getting a job with you local soft drink or beer distributor..you'll probably start out as a route helper or a merchandiser and move your way up to driver. They will teach you how to pass the cdl test and let you use their truck. I would recommend getting a cdl permit before you apply for a job with them though.
I wouldn't recommend using a Mega-Carrier's trucking school to get your cdl and then quit them as soon as its in your hands. Not only are you on the hook for the cost of training, but they will probably hit you with other costs such as food and lodging, drug test, physical, etc...and they will probably put something nasty on your DAC report.Danvitt Thanks this. -
Many Millis Transfer drivers have posted they make well over $40K their first year.
$500.00 gets you into their program.slim shady Thanks this. -
Will definitely check into Millis, I have seen lots of reports of people making that and more their first year , check the thread "my experience with tmc" on this site. Is the guy lying or is he really averaging 8 to 1000 a week? Net! So he says. I don't mind busting my ***. But I gotta be able to live. I know the companies are out there its just coming up with the cash for the cdl

The only program better than Millis, that I can think of, is Schneider Bulk(tankers).
Schneider will pay for private CDL school, then you work for them.
By being a better program, what I mean is the paychecks, not the training.Danvitt Thanks this. -
Just starting out and getting ready to go to community college for my CDL's. I have been in manufacturing for 25 years and need a change. Is there any more money in hauling Hazmat than regular loads?
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Exactly why I'm doing it, hate the factory life. From what I understand you want to get all the endorsements you can because you'll have little time to do it later. I've seen companies offer a few more cpm for hazmat loads
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Schneider is a good place to start for company paid training.
These companies hire new CDL grads from private CDL schools; some may hire for certain terminals only, but they all hire new CDL grads.
