I continued digging and cleaning to find a set of triangles under the bunk, and there's a fire extinguisher mounted on the back of the cab. There is also a set of cable chains , unused and in a canvas type bag under the bunk.

Didn't pull them out and count them, it's been the big red outdoor camping site for the great nieces and nephews for the last two days!

    So far . . . .

Well, the dining room table got cleared for Christmas dinner. The in laws came up from Louisiana and between taking young-uns for Corvette, 4 wheeler and big truck rides, I was relatively worn out.

Utilised the start of the week going to Georgia to buy the headache rack, 5 tarps and a bunch of other chains straps and binders for $2200. This leaves a short list of securements to buy - maybe another $1,000.

Getting things done at this time of the year is hit and miss, but with a quick bit of research and phone calls, I managed to plan the days and get a few more things checked off the list.

    - Ran the Operating agreement for the LLC past the lawyer, and paid him for that and the previous LLC research. $50.
    - Paid for and set into place, bobtail insurance, in order to drive it to the inspection. $190, then $140 each month.
    - US bank - set up 2 checking, 1 saving and a credit card under the LLC's EIN.
    - Attempted to pay 2290 - IRS online site is down until Jan 6th . . . cannot figure out what 'category', (A-W) . . .
    - Titiled truck in LLC's name. Paid taxes of $400. Unable to tax exempt, as I'm not leased on with carrier yet.
    - Took truck for inspection, passed. $55.
    - Went to 'Chrome Shop Mafia', spent $100 on polishing wheels, polish, adapters etc, to shine up headache rack.
    - Faxed all required information back to LS.
    - $12 on a dozen beer, and off to the shop, polishing headache rack in the shop, in front of the shop heater.

Remaining - Pay 2290, (after figuring it out).
    - Drug test
    - Schedule and attend orientation
    - Fit headache rack, purchase remaining securements.

I was pretty happy about the inspection. The headache rack was a long round trip, but worth it, I think. The wife is chomping at the bit to get things started, I'm a bit sluggish. Still have a podiatrist appointment on the 15th for her, while the health insurance is still current.

you should be able to get bobtail insurance much much cheaper than 140 a month, especially leasing on, at mercer its 20 bucks a month at most 40 bucks at landstar I would guess.

Yes. Another cart before horse - LS (Gallagher) insurance is unavailable to me till leased on . . . still had to have it insured to run it around for inspections.

I used my regular insurance peeps - local, friendly, helpful . . . but yup - expensive.

    Blair,

I have been using 2290tax.com ; for a small fee they do all the IRS jazz for you and print receipt at the time of purchase. It works for me take a look maybe it will be something to help you simplify. They will also send you reminders later on when it gets close to time for it again. Hope that helps.

Just a quick thought; your lease company will probably have all this covered but just to throw it out; if you run Kentucky you will need a KY number displayed on the truck , New Mexico also has something specific or used to , Kansas requires mileage taxes to be paid, and Oregon requires PUC license and mileage reporting and taxes. I am sure I missed one or two but those are just off the top of my head. Like I said your carrier company should set you up for all this depending on your region to be run but double check it, sitting in scale areas waiting for paperwork with a load on sucks.

PS; make sure to display the VIN number on the side of the truck also along with DOT number and MC, check me on this but there was a letter and number size requirement and when displaying the VIN have that in the front "VIN" with the last letters and or digits of said number with an obvious space between "VIN" and the numbers.

    Congrats, Blair!
I like to read stories such as yours. I also admire the way that you have set yourself up with as little risk as possible. Very smart.

Just need last 8 of the VIN. Mainly for Colorado. NM they can tell if you have bought your $5 permit for your particular truck by checking your plate #. Kansas has a mileage tax? Thought only was NY, NM, OR, KY ... ? (not talking about IFTA surcharge states)

You don't need to put the kyu # on the side either.
