I have had my CDL since '93. Did OTR for years and have done local haul (flatbed, van, mulch wagon) for the last 8 years, home every night. Looking to get back on the road and into HH. Contacted ATS and they blew me off because my OTR is not recent. Also looking to contact Daily out of PA. Any other companies I should check into?

I think Daily is all owner operator, not sure if they have any fleets leased on there.

I've always heard highly of Trinity Trucking by their drivers. I'd check them out for heavy haul they used to hire alot out of the NE, they used to have a terminal in PA

Thanks - I will check both of those out. Daily does have limited company driver spots but they want 12 months HH experience. Seems to be what I am finding everywhere. They all want the experience, but cannot find anyone to give it to me.

If you really want to get into HH, move to Texas, I got a HH job with no trucking experience and every company I have moved to since, has had a driver shortage, they all are willing to train. I am home every night.

If you really want to learn HH, move to Texas for 2-5 years. Or you can keep driving otr but I make more than most OTR drivers and I sleep in my bed every night and I don't even have 5 years driving experience.

I dont think you will find a walk in HH job without recent experience. Will Daily give you a job pulling a step and work your way up? Or maybe try Keen (I'm trying to think of companies that pull in and out of Baltimore).

A buddy of mine went to Daily. He started at ATS, then went to Lonestar, bought his own truck and started pulling containers to be home every night. He realized that just pays the bills but leaves out the bank account. So, he got back into an open trailer. He had recent OTR experience, but since he hadnt pulled an open trailer in a couple years, he was put on probation with a stepdeck for about 6 months before he can move up.

What company & how can one get to doing this?? Sounds interesting. I have some HH experience & would like to do it again. Houston isn't bad for me either, only a 5 hr drive & I have all kinds of kinfolk out there, so relocating wouldn't be TOO difficult.😁😁

Check craigslist in Houston to see who is hiring. Search "heavy haul" or search "RGN" and you will find companies. Also check indeed.com or get the indeed app. I'm not sure if they are hiring right now but Texan Transportation has rollbacks & Landolls to get your feet wet.

Also the rental companies are a good place to get your feet wet and they are always hiring. Sunbelt Rentals, Sunstate Rentals, Hertz, United Rentals are all constantly hiring in Houston. You could try some of the smaller rental companies too like Blue line and others. Maybe TNT Wreckers out of Beaumont also do HH.

Ok thanks for the info. I'm not really new to it, did a good bit of moving construction equipment and such, just looking to do it again.👍👍
