Running the I-5 corridor through Oregon if you're really lucky you can witness some of the Marshmallow Harvest. The Harvest runs April into May, and sometimes into June if conditions are right. This last trip out I got lucky, I run up on a flatbed hauling a load of yummy virgin white Mallows. My first thought was oh how delicious they would be. Late in the season Mallows taste so good, they heat up just enough to taste almost toasted. Toasted Mallows are so good, I remember many a campfire sticking those luscious mallows on a stick. Before being processed each Mallow can weigh up to 1000 pounds. After being Jet Puffed the Mallow can range in size anywhere from Desert to Campfire size.
Mallows were discovered in the early 1900's and named after Farmer Mallow. Mallows fast grew into a holiday favorite, and a must at Campfires. Campfire Boys and Girls have loved them for years upon years. Campfire adults often use mallows to create tasty Smores. A delicious combination of Chocolate, Gramcracker and Mallows. Go figure!
It was exciting to see the Flatbed loaded with Mallows. I thought I would never see another. Now I have seen only two in almost 30 years on the road. Mallows are only harvested at certain times of the day and night. Mallows are not often seen traveling down the highway. I was so very surprised to come across such a sight. It also was a total surprise to see the truck. I have no idea how old it may have been.

Im sorry I didn't even realize that my story even got posted, I was working on getting the picture and the setup is different from our other blogs. I think I have it figured out so I hope you like the picture. Remember no Mallows were hurt in any way while taking the picture.
