It crazy because as much as this country depends on us, and is in need of so much more of us, you would think that this industry would bend over to make this carrier more appealing. Especially because it really takes a certain kinda mind set for a person to do this job and make it a carrier. In addition to all the things we must sacrifice for this job/carrier. But I guess our society is scewed in such a way that important jobs do not compensate the way they should and the ones that do, life could easily go on without. And instead of making the carrier more attractive to people, they dumb up the job instead so they can put just anyone that thinks this is what they May want to do for that week in a truck and send them out after a couple of weeks training. Then they get out here and miss home after the first couple of weeks and off they go back home, deciding like a kid going through a phase that this is just not for them. If the industry would requirer at the bear minimum 28 week of school like I did, plus the few weeks with a trainer on the job. Then maybe it would weed out a lot more of the starring wheel holders and then the compensation could be better. Our government would be able to treat us like adults rather then children with all kinds of rules, and it could in the end be just a little better of a carrier for those of us that take it seriously.

I never went to any school and had my cdl during senior class in high school as soon as I got 18. I been around trucks all my life with my dad driving 30+ years and my uncle 35+ years as owner ops.
I paid my dues running an old 76 transtar 2 with a 300 Cummins and a 9 speed that jumped out of 9th and 4th *5th for you who may count granny* and that nothing worked on including speedometer or tachometer, you then get to learn to pace yourself as the distance between two lightpoles average the count of four seconds at 60mph. so I don't agree with the forced school as long as you know the job and what to expect from it. It is time to learn to play the game.

Oh, and they call this 'unskilled labor.'
