Hey guys, I went to take the test and do the fingerprinting and background check for a hazmat endorsement over 3 months ago.
I was told at the DMV and the fingerprinting center that it would take 90 days to get the results.
Well, 90 days have passed and the only thing that showed up in the mail was... well... a background check.
I'm really confused and the DMV isn't helping in the slightest. So, I'm turning to you guys to help me out.
Where do I go from here? Do I take the background check to the DMV and have them start the process of sending me out the new license? I've tried calling, but spent 4 hours on hold before the call being dropped. When I went in person I was told that they don't handle that.
Also, the background check says nothing about it being a TSA or FBI background check, but it is very detailed.

The first time I went through this.
(I'm trying to remember)
Several years back.
I went to a website. Paid money with credit card. Printed out papers.
Took papers to the finger print place.
Some time later I got a letter that said "I am no threat".
I took that letter to the DMV.
And got my hazmat endorsement renewed.
I think they are skipping the printing and mailing of the letter now.
The last time I renewed hazmat, they electronically communicate the approval to your DMV.
I never got anything in the mail that looked like a "background check".BrenYoda883 Thanks this. -
Call this number...it is the universal enrollment place.

That letter means YOU PASSED, but at nearly ANY DMV, you only HAD 90 days! SO that letter may now be void, which may mean that you may have to do it all over again!
You should have taken that letter, the DAY YOU GOT IT, and gone to your dmv to TAKE your hazmat written test.!!!!!!!!
I think you blew it.
GO NOW!
AND TAKE THAT LETTER WITH YOU!
GO IN PERSON, and ask if your DMV has a CDL Section! MINE DOES!
YOU NEED to take the hazmat written test.!!!!!!!!!!!!
THEN you get your endorsement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Well, if you don't think the background check letter is from TSA, then what does it say on the heading/return address as to who sent it?
In other words, who else would be sending you a background check results back?? Likely it IS the TSA letter.
You say it is "very detailed". How so? The typical TSA approval letters (background check) basically say very little if you're approved. -
Are you sure... because once I pass they electronic tell the dmv... because I got my letter Dec 2013 and was planning on renewing my license this week...
Edit: I didn't wanna take the test and then take it again a year later lol that's why I was waiting till I had to renew -
I just renewed my CDL and Hazmat... I first went to the DMV, took a d passed my Hazmat test, then ai went online to the TSA Hazmat site and filled out an application and set an appointment for the fingerprints..
Went and did the fingerprint thing... they also checked and verified credentials.. license, Birth certificate, Passport.. and collected my payment which had to be a check or money order..
After several weeks I got a letter from the TSA saying that I was NO THREAT... there was no background report or information... it was just a letter sah the TSA has deamed me not to be a threat..
I also got a postcard from the DMV saying they recieved my TSA results and to bring the postcard and two pieces of ID to the DMV to renew my license...
You said you got a detailed background.... you may have requested a background check on yourself and that is why you got a detailed background packet...
Check where the TSA places are in your area... here where I am we have a couple sites and o e in the airport... you can go there as a walk in and tell them yoj need a HAZMAT fingerprint and background check... they can walk you through it... there was a guy whi walked in when I was getting my fingerprints and they took care of it for him..
Also.. some companies will help you with it too... dont know what company you drive for but they may help you with it.. -
I say it is 90 days to get the hazmat testing done, once you get the letter in the mail. Yes, they had already sent an email to your state DMV, but there is STILL a time limit as to get that testing done. I tried looking up my state's time frame. I thought it was 90 days, but it could be only 60 days. I hope I can find it, not that I need it, as I will be retired next CDL license renewal time.
SO that o/p had GO IN PERSON to check and see if he did not miss his deadline! -
In Colorado you have one year from the day you pass the written test as well as for when the letter comes in the mail.
-
Yes you must take the results to your dmv along with either your social scecurity card or birth certificate. Then you'll get your picture taken for a new cdl and hazmat will be on it.You'll get a paper copy and your plastic cdl will arrive in the mail within a week to a month.
