I tend to agree. I usually buy a few used reefer trailers at a time, instead of new. First thing I do is cut down the chute, lol. All it does is start hanging and being an annoyance.

I'm not sure I'd worry about the "authority". If I understand what you are trying to do just make a little extra to keep the truck moving I'd just run broker loads and use their authority. Now it has been years since I was trucking and maybe you can't do that any longer.

I'll defer my .2 to guys that are more current. In the "old days" we hauled corn from Okeechobee and bananas from the docks without a chute but we were only running 38-40 trailers then.

A couple of things to add here, depending on the unit a chute for produce is advisable. Now with most sr2 and up equiped units, the modulation that can be coupled with the optiset feature will cure most worries with those sensitive products with high heat of respiration. Now in your case you are kinda of hurting the sb400 by not running deep freeze. Those screw compressors do not like running half capacity.

So it appears to me we have a different opinions. I just purchased an 06 reefer. No chute. I'm heading to Florida the end of next week. I was told by the company I bought it from, that the folks really concerned about the no chute thing when hauling flowers. Not sure what to do now!

Why not have a chute it's not that much money. Not worth the risk of losing a load of anything.

Well I ordered the standard poly chute from Randall Manufacturing. Of course there aren't any instructions, so I have no idea how to install it especially over the reefer. Anyone ever install one?

We install mesh chutes typically we use a bracket that is tek screwed to the unit, snap two chalk lines down the trailer, and we use 1/4 inch nylon rivets. If you want measurements, let me know I have them for sb's and precedents..
