Really? Parallel parking is pretty important. Especially in those Nebraska rest areas, lol.

parallel parking was a big problem at first
the more comfortable you are backing the easier it becomes

Exact opposite of that. Most states do several backing/maneuvering skills tests, and not just straight backing.
I'll add Illinois to the list, as they have a 3 part skills test with 45° angle dock backing with a strict backing stop point/area.

It's unbelievable how some of these "schools" release students without even practicing & getting somewhat skilled at various backing maneuvers.
OP,, what state did you test in? What was the name of the "school" if you don't mind me asking? How long was the course?

In any event, the less you know from the beginning it will make it more likely for you to be dropped from any company's training, unless you pick up those missing skills fairly quickly. The patience and allowed 'learning time' varies with each company, but especially with each individual trainer's patience & dedication.

OK so I fibbed we also did driver side parallel .

In from pa and the state ended up sending me to a cdl mill ,I tried to switch to a better school but state funding was locked in .

Was 250 hours on paper for cdl a +passanger but really it was hardly anything like that
Got a total of 30 min wheel time a day to do backing. Then second and third week we got 15 min a day to practice shifting in a pilots parking lot.

Last week we got a hour a day going over the test course.I'm not gonna publicly post the school unless it ever impacts my employment .

Since you already have your CDL you'll get plenty of time to learning backing during your training. You'll probably have to take a road test before training just to make sure you can handle a semi then the backing portion will come after your training is completed I would think.

IL skills test is pretty basic. Pull forward, front stop as close to line without touching it. Then straight back without crossing the lines on either side. Then a measured 90 degree right hand turn getting as close to the cone without touching it, then set up for a 45 degree angle back, one pull up allowed, then measured back into the hole getting as close to the back line without touching it.

Ohio has three now. Had to do straight line, off set where u pull in one lane then back into one next to it, then parallel or alley dock. I got parallel. Had to parallel at rest area one night, the small ones that are side by side. Like a lot in OH. It was funny. Had to shut down as out of time. So one spot open and it was parallel only. Hadnt done one for about year on my cdl test. Wife was flipping out, but got it in first try.

New Mexico uses 6 back types, mix them at random for each test, 3 each. Keeps the dang scheming drivers on their toes.
