I may get flamed for this but I read all these postings complaining about companies having a "bottom line" mentality. Yet there are also tons of posts here by drivers who want more money. Why is it "ok" for drivers to try to make the most they can but not companies? Companies that go broke don't pay good wages to anyone!

Because at a lot of these places a driver will work 70 hours a week and take home just enough to put food on the table and maybe pay the mortgage. Meanwhile at that same company the top execs are flipping through there brochures trying to decide which model private jet they are going to purchase next year. Yeah I know, capitalism, they earned it right? That's great and so be it. No one ever got rich as a company truck driver but at least let the guy who is just getting by be somewhat happy at there job without the micromanagement and constant new rules that come from some other middle management position with no real purpose.

No we won't flame you but we will be clear on the fact that "without drivers a trucking Company will not be a trucking Company" those in the office lead normal lives, going home to their families at the end of the day, so it is safe to say that drivers are the very back bone of the company, we are the ones on the front lines hitting the ball for the company, holding the fort down...... Any trucking Company that is not seeing to it that these warriors are paid according to their worth & sacrifice, should shut their doors & go home because the frieght will be moved with or without the trucking Company that for some reason can't compete with the trucking industry, so don't think for a minute that veteran drivers don't realize that we have all the value in this partnership...... Bottom line for drivers is "we drive for our families" if we can't make $ here, we will make it there, we are a capitalistic nation, are we not? .... I once worked for a man that had a good company saying "if I'm making $, you are making $" every good partnership has alot of give & take involved

Yeah, but your missing one key fact. Your a driver, not a CEO or Owner , one day if you can make it up that far then you too can make decisions.

I run percentage now, I've ran mileage, $0.42 flatbed, and an additional $0.10 for oversize. I've ran 20+ hours aday, for those who go home 8-5 and an hour off for lunch, they go home Shave/shower, eat lunch and sleep in their bed while I'm out pounding the pavement, I've never taken a 14 hour break, ever in my career. I don't run out of hours, I run loose leaf logs, and have my recap I turn to, I've gotten close to running out of hours with as low as 15 minutes, but everything I have done, shows legal, while those in the 'trucking industry' are at home after a 9-10 hour day in an office telling their spouse and anyone will listen to 'What a long day at work this was..' and so forth. I just think its comical someone think someone does nothing and only runs 1/3rd day getting paid, and you arent making nothing. Well guess what, they arent making nothing either at that case, but its okay for you guys to sit and let a driver wait all day for a load, for nothing, and deadhead someone 200 miles (cause most places don't pay % driver anything for 200 miles or less then they give $20)

This is the reason, as you stated above "If you run by mileage pay then you cant make any money if you don't roll non stop" I say you are doing something wrong, and I do like that we have the DOT so people that have your mindset cannot make us legally run 24 hours a day while you sleep nice and warm in your bed with your family.
    Respectfully,
    Judge

And that's why I moved from the truck and into the office.....yes we go home every night for 16 hours, yes we get weekends off and while we try to do the same for the drivers we still got customers to serve......our company is built around a small group of key customers and they have to come first.

I would put loads of tape over any speaker or mic looking holes. And any other little holes where a camera could be hidden. May not be able to completely make sound inaudible but you'd sure distort the hell out of it to the point where they won't hear it. Wouldn't surprise me in the bit if they were secretly spying on you. It it is their equipment. When I was a police officer, I knew they were listening and that they had cameras in our vehicles. Had to be very careful about what was said. They told us the only time the camera and audio is engaged is when you run codes (lights), or go above 80 mph. Bull crap. Thats what they tell you to not worry about it. If it can engage at those times, it can engage any time they want. Call me paranoid, but in this world of constant surveillance and invasion of privacy and people suing people all the time, companies will do whatever they want to protect their investment. Up to and including invading your right to privacy. But, is it a right if you are driving their truck? I don't know. Fine line.
