No, I'm against it, I was going for point of what 'Unknown Substance' was refering to saying, 'since you are driving $160,000 equipment they should be able to watch you 24/7' or just have a ride a long because they don't trust you. That was the reason of fair is fair statement, if you do it to one person in the driving industry, do it to all.
Spy ware in the truck??

And THERE lies the problem! You've bought into the "drivers are replaceable so screw'em" mentality. Nevermind that an experienced driver not only saves the company money but is worth his weight in gold to a carrier who appreciates him, or that an experienced driver will make your customers happier with the service you provide, or even that an experienced driver can help you expand your business. He's replaceable cause you've got 20 to 30 new guys to put in his seat for cheaper so screw him.
You, sir, are a dispatcher through and through. And not even a good one. I seriously doubt you would be able to hold you dispatcher job with my carrier, as your attitude would probably get you shown the door within a week. My carrier understands the value of an experienced driver to the company as a whole, and have founf that working with our drivers as equals allows us greater flexibility and greater income potential. Our drivers are valued employees, not replaceable parts. And driver turnover is one of our principle concerns.
Stay where you are at, unknown_substance. But trust that your days as a dispatcher are number ed d with your current attitude. Companies are eventually going to arrive at the conclusion if they don't trwat their drivers as human beings the company will fail catastrophically. And my carrier (which has stayed ahead of the curve on driver treatment) will be more than happy to step up and take those precious customers of yours right out from underneath you.Seattle206 Thanks this. -
We only hire experienced drivers, the main reason for turnover is because a lot of these drivers come from mega carriers and they want someone to hold their hand 24/7,not gonna happen here,if I give you load going to the Bronx or the Metro Chicago area I don't want to hear from you until the load's been delivered. We also have a local bulk division along with the owners farm operation and everyone there is completely happy with their job.

Funny, we only hire experienced drivers too. And the major reason we have turnover is due to drivers moving on to local positions. And most if not all of our guys come out of "megas" too. Yes, there is a bit of handholding at the beginning while the driver learns how to handle his freedom. And yet, we only bring in an average of 3 to five drivers a week. A class of fifteen is so odd for us they still talk about it at the home office! But then, we work towards our drivers' success, since when they make money so do we. A far more sustainable attitude to take in the long term. As opposed to "do what your told, you stupid driver, or you're fired", which is the vibe I get off you.
RoadCall Thanks this. -
Well we don't work towards the drivers success because that's all on them, working for us is what you make out of it,if you run hard and do what you're told you can make some money here but if you want to complain about going to New Jersey or Chicago all time then you're not going to have a good time, this company started out on the farm and that's where our work ethic came from.

That's internet chest thumping if I ever saw it. Every trucking executive is concerned about driver turnover and the only reason your not is your just a dispatcher who probably has little or no access to the bigger picture of your company. Trucking companies have been "trusting a guy off the streets" with trucks since trucking began, it's not a new radical concept. .50 cpm, while good isn't the top pay and experienced drivers won't have a hard time replacing that pay.
But I've never had a dispatcher that couldn't be replaced with a trained monkey. Now a load planner, a good salesman sure.
I always wonder, every company I have ever been with no matter how good has always been behind on maintenance. Every driver has driven a truck or trailer that had a DOT violation at some point. Wouldn't the money used to buy and install these cameras be better used for maintaining equipment. But we all know, it Safety for us but $afety for them.
Lastly, I always love when office people talk about the cost of trucks like it's supposed to wow us. Trucks cost money but you can't make money without them so it's a simple cost of business. Don't like to spend money, then don't truck.RoadCall and VeganTrucker Thank this. -
What we have here....is two different views on how a company can succeed. I'll let the drivers here decide which view is the better one. I've already made my choice, choosing the comapny that actively works with their drivers to the drivers's (and the company's) success.
-
This is a smaller farm based company and not some mega carrier like you probably work for so our office staff are treated like family here,in fact you have to know someone here to get a fair shot at an office or local driving job.

And the drivers treated like crap.....
You still don't have the balls to say what Company this is......Last edited by a moderator: Mar 7, 2015
