You answered your own question. Money is one of the few motivators. Taking something away to correct a specific behavior, like not pretripping or worse, rolling with the issues, is sometimes the only way to change the behavior. I'd hardly call that slavery.

Thats where most of the companies come up with "bonuses"bzinger Thanks this.

I had a chance to talk to a few covenant drivers...
Most were ex-covenant, they quit because the dispatchers would quote the bible or say, "what would Jesus do with that load?" (Paraphrased from their words... The real words aren't safe to post here.)
The one driver I talked to who still worked for covenant was new. Forced teaming and undertrained for using his Qualcomm. He states he would do his time with teaming, go solo and see if anything changed. He agreed with what other drivers have told me and got a good laugh out of, "Dont trust a company that has to quote religion on their equipment." I wished him the best of luck with his 6th partner in 3 months...
We parted ways each a little wiser... -
Watch out for key words like "You can make UP to.." and all the high cents per mile, but the question is how many miles in an average trip. Not to forget about the sign on bonus that is paid out over a year. You get it for driving solo OTR, then two months later with the same company, you land a dedicated route or regional area, guess what you lost your sigh on bonus because now you are dedicated or regional and not OTR. Now we know they will not come out an tell you that you will loose your sign on bonus now will they.
Shaggy Thanks this. -
But how many keep their jobs if they refuse to move unsafely? Obviously you wouldn't want to work for a company that acts like that anyway. I am just wondering how much is good in theory and what really happens in the real world. Are people given a big hassle if they need something fixed and refuse to move until it's repaired?Vilhiem Thanks this.

Answer to your last question, yes.I got fired for this reason and ended up sueing him for wrongful termination. But if something needs fix do not move the trk no matter what and how minor is it especially with companies that will fine you for it like Convenant is doing. My dispatcher can lose his voice trying to talk me into driving but if a company wants to fine me for a dot violation then they're going to get whatever needs to be fixed first.
UKJ Thanks this. -
Did you win?i hope so

that's a lie right there..a bald faced lie.
You could have a ####### birthday while waiting on hold to talk to someone at Covenant,if you worked there then you know its true..loose_leafs and Shaggy Thank this.
