Just wondering if some employers pay for this. I always thought the driver had to.
I had a phone interview with a small carrier today and thought he said he would pay it all!
Great guy,Smaller company and sounded like a really good place to work.
A place that I would fit in good with.
I already have an offer on the table with a big company but now really want to talk more with this owner.
Good pay,Insurance and really nice equipment..
Supposed to do interview, drug screen and physical Monday with this big outfit but now have second thoughts.
The smaller company pays better for sure but don't want to burn any bridges with the big company either.
How many Companies pay for TWIC,Hazmat and Background check? New job!

If you have been a driver for over 30 years and have any kind of decent resume and driving record you should be able to get multiple instant job offers from any number of large companies just by breathing toward the phone. I know, in your place, I would be looking much more seriously at the little guy. Especially if it pays better.
EZ Money Thanks this. -
I've never paid out of my pocket for any of those. TWIC especially. Good luck driver, hope you find a solid co to work for

Yea,The big company was no problem getting hired with.
The smaller fleet sounds like a way better gig.
The owner sounds like a straight up guy and someone that takes care of his drivers.
Good CSA score and very nice equipment. Also a bunch of dedicated accounts.
He is adding more possibly 15 more trucks this summer due to some great accounts and trying to get away from most broker freight.
Sounds like he really has this company going in a great direction.pattyj Thanks this. -
My last company paid for my TWIC card and they also paid to renew it when it came due.

I paid for my own hazmat but that was before i had a gig with it. But i hauled fuel for a company and they paid for twic port id and dot card. Pretty good job and benefits. I would say look at your current situation and weigh both of the cons of both companies. The reason i say cons is because of course you are going to like the pros. The cons are going to let you know if its worth staying.

Double post.....Them both vanished...WTH!

I think I will call the big Company and see if I can reschedule my interview Monday.
Give me time to talk more with this other fleet.
I know Monday they want me to do drug screen, physical and all.
Then Thursday drive 200 miles for a one day orientation then 200 miles home....they pay 60 bucks each way...
Will barely cover gas in my Chevy with the big LS street engine that gets 15 mpg. -
Just wondering is it frtl
-
The big boys can always wait - I have had good experience with the one smaller crowd I worked for. Just my 2c.
Either way - weigh up the cost of TWIC/HAZ etc - and go by the figures, and your gut.
Good luck.EZ Money Thanks this.
