Drove by a few months ago and it looked like they were renovating that place. Pleasantly surprised this evening to see that they are demolishing the whole joint. That place was NASTY! I will miss the C-stores though that we're located separately on either side of the highway.
-
I miss the stopping there for my break.
-
Yes they did have plenty of parking. I have a feeling they will turn it into a truck parking area. The OTA has a few former plazas still open for parking around the state.
-
The signs say it will be renovated and reopened in a year or so.

This reminds me of a tale about a mouse skin coat; very labor intensive as opposed to employing the hides of larger mammals such as deer or cattle. I will save the story for a more appropriate thread.

What sucks is you better spend a penny before you leave Tulsa as no bathrooms until you hit the state line unless you get off the pike.
Gulf Thanks this. -
It finally reopened. It was completely torn down, except for the arch going across the interstate, so hopefully all the mice are gone. They have some big tribute to Charlie Chaplin inside with video from his funeral on recurring loop.
But the real disappointment is they cut the truck parking about in half. They have expanded fuel island with natural gas lanes. There is a lot of open space where I'm sure many trucks will squeeze in and throw a bunch of urine and poop around. Fun. -
Been there a few times since the reopening. Now two separate Kum 'N Go convenience stores on both sides of the interstate. Bathroom situation is much improved. I swear the old place had the nastiest bathrooms in these parts. The ones outside by the gas stations were absolutely disgusting.
I remember years ago when Howard Johnsons owned and operated it. It was quite a "marvel" when I-44 was built. Everyone traveling the interstate stopped to see it and was usually the highlight of the trip.Gulf Thanks this. -
McDonald's is nothing but a corporate ghetto now.
Why would anyone eat there?
