You might be right, at least fuel fairly cheap. This industry has always been a crap shoot and always will be.

I don't know how many drivers this will apply to here, but at MATS I saw that Rite-Weigh has a new electronic sensor to replace the air pressure gauge in the axle weighing system. I have a spread with a front sliding axle. I've found axle weights differ when run as spread vs closed tandem. Sliding one axle forward puts more weight on the trailer, just like sliding your tandems would, but not as much change.

This new sensor/display can hold two separate calibrations, plus it should be more accurate because it uses an empty weight and a (near) gross weight load to determine axle weights. I ordered one and will see how well it works. I plan on one calibration for closed tandem and one for spread. I'm not worried about the lift axle since I only run that in the closed position and only when empty or with very light loads. I run a lot of LTL that is loaded over the drives and only 2-3K lbs, putting almost no additional weight on the trailer axles.

Blew a drive tire and did $4500.00 damage to my Dynasys APU.
Was worried this would not be covered but insurance was fantastic to deal with.
Been with Mercer over 2 years now and you think I can even get a rock chip in my darn windshield??? lol

    CJndaTruck Thanks this.
