What? Wait a minute. You actually think that I'm supposed to think for myself? Don't tell my wife that.

We need a nother war so they'd ship all those ugly used fleet trucks over to get blowed up like they did the old JB Schneider COEs in Iraq.

We r not Cool aid drinkers we r hard working truck drivers. Do the job get doing the next load. -

KR canceled all of his radio shows this week. His lapdog jackie says she knows why and won't say but it isn't good. I certainly don't wish any harm or ill health on the man or his family. But if the reason is due to that glider mess and his bs. I'm all for it to have him get booted off the airwaves.

Most bypass oil systems sold for semi engines are designed so that you never change your oil again. I agree that extra filtering is very good for these engines, I even have a bypass oil filter on my own truck (The cheap $300.00 Amsoil system). If your running EGR, and not going to do a delete, then by all means, any system designed to lower soot levels will help the motor by quite a bit, BUT,...(here is what I disagree with),...Not changing the oil for 100k+ miles presents some serious risks to the engine in my, and from what I have read, Cummins's opinion, best I can tell. Without regular draining intervals of the oil, sediment will easily collect in the bottom of the motor/oil pan. Over time, combined with heat from operation, this sediment/addative settling will seperate from the oil and harden, creating the potential for lots of secondary problems. Also, many of these same companies/sales people will push you to use synthetic oil in the engine to boot. Synthetic oil is great stuff, but in the ISX, There are countless cases of overhead cam failures/pre-mature wear problems that have been blamed as an after-effect of using synthetic oil in these motors, especially when combined with Lucas. The engine was designed for Shell Rotella-T or Delo-400. I have also had many engine mechanics say that they see a much higher rate of pre-mature cam failure in engines with synthetic vs without. There is no hard evidence for these claims at all, and I am not convinced this is actually the case, so I can only rely on my own experiences when it comes to synthetic/extended oil drain intervals. I myself tried to run my engine this way and could tell the engine did not like it after 30k + miles on the same oil. The engine ran noisier, especially under heavy torque, even with a good bypass system. The sound difference was subtle, but I could hear and feel a distinct difference while driving my truck. I tried to narrow it down, but couldn't. I changed filters, replaced a couple gallons of oil, and even did extensive oil sampling via a lab, findinf nothing that could explain the change in sound. Somehow though, changing the oil Always quieted the engine again. I never could solve this, and have had many people try to tell me it was just me, but ######!!! Its MY truck!, I drive it all day, every day, and I can tell when something isn't quite right. I have a #### good ear for it, and can even hear when the oil needs changing from laying in the bunk in the back, while the wife drives. I know that change in sound, subtle as it may be, that only fresh oil can cure. Call me a crack pot on this particular one, but I am not going to play with this,...Not on my truck any-ways, so I gave up trying to figure it out.
I now have a delete on my truck, so my oil doesn't even turn dark for at least 15,000 miles any more. Its as clean looking as it came from the bottle, so when it starts to change color (just like in my personal vehicles), I change it, and the filter. That is usually about every 20-25k miles. My bypass filter is NOT what is keeping my oil looking so new, I have several friends without any kind of bypass oil system with Milk-Money deletes, and their oil looks just as new (same color as from the bottle) for at least 10k+ miles as well. Back before the delete, I installed the cheap Amsoil bypass filter on my truck, and my soot ratings from sampling went from 2.4-2.8 every 25k miles to 0.54. The bypass filter certainly knocked the soot out of my motor, so yes, it helped a ton, but it did not keep my oil from looking black in color all the time. I have been running Shell Rotella-T in my motor now for 680k+ miles now, and when I ran my overhead at 580k miles, I could hardly see any wear on my overhead cams at all. Most of the lobes hadn't even started to change color, nor were even starting to show any signs of getting polished yet. Because of this,...the oil I am using works just fine for me, and I am not about to waste money on synthetic, just to dump it out after 30k miles. I do use 2 quarts of Mobil 75/90 synthetic gear lube in my engine in the summer time every oil change to help lower turbo temps and thicken the oil slightly, but not in the winter. I do this because of the delete, as I see my turbo temps get high easily now. I use no other oil additives in my engine.popcorn169, dannythetrucker, rexmanno and 1 other person Thank this. -
I use a bypass too, and I do stretch the drains a little from original OEM recommended. My 12.7 60, when it was originally made, recommended CI-4 and 15,000 miles. Everyone was on LSD fuel. Dig a little deeper in the newest DDC lube manual, and drains on 60 series can be done at 25,000 with a CJ-4 ( 93K218 ) and ULSD fuel. Well, I go to the 25,000 up from the original 15,000 because of CJ-4, ULSD, and getting over 7 mpg average. Comfort level will not let me go beyond 25K. I have no interest is setting some sort of drain interval record.
