ITS regularly shows flatbed freight in my area. Be buggered if I can find where in the heck it's at though! According to the numbers, my company's drivers should be doing very well income wise. But looking at what I'm seeing on a day to day basis it's a fight just to keep the trucks loaded and moving. And I'm getting the same info from the other carriers I talk to around here.
I called it two weeks ago, and I'm calling it again. It's gonna be a rough year for flatbedding.Truckin Juggalo and Bad Monkey Thank this. -
it ebbs and flows, you just have to adapt and go with it, don't get to rigid on where ya go or don't go, its a long race, not a sprint. in the overall picture its not a bit different on freight than its always been.
I got to laugh at some of you saying they bringing on to many guys, that sounds like old guys talking, lol.shortcut, roadawg86, OONewbie and 1 other person Thank this. -

The fifth wheel is pretty much set where it is, but I haven't had any issues with weight yet....that being said, I've only had 2 loads that have put me anywhere close to max gross and they were still a good pit from that. The truck is spec'ed 13,200 on the steers, so as long as you under state law, it wouldn't be an issue very often anyway. All that said, KW makes an extension for the fifth wheel to slide it back further, but it costs $600 installed according to the guys over at KW in Louisville. The kingpin sits slightly in front of dead center on the tandems, but it shouldn't be much of an issue soon anyway. According to Quality (I assume you are looking at going through them since you are asking me specifically) they are going to be getting longer slides for the fifth wheels in the next batch they buy since they have heard so many complaints coming from the collective "us".
The truck has been good overall so far. I have had a couple slight issues, but as soon as I informed Quality of the issues they directed me to KW and it was taken care of swiftly. The headache rack isn't much of a problem anymore, I'm used to it. There is very little room between it and the trailer, but like I said, I'm used to it. The air lines, no matter which headache rack you get, will likely need to me wrapped with the hard plastic coil wrap to protect them, though. The group of us that got our trucks at the same time all tried something different with the air lines, and it seems most everyone ended up going out and getting the plastic wrap in the end.
Any other questions, feel free to ask away -
It was better than $3/mile in Harrisburg? Did I just end up in PA on the wrong week because I didn't see anything remotely close to that?
