Once you are dispatched on a load you can get an advance loaded onto your fuel card, roughly 50% of the load. If you manage your funds this should never be an issue. Depositing funds from your fuel card to your bank will incur charges from the card issuer. They also charge $1.75 to load your card. I either take the full advance available or none at all. Some drivers will take a couple hundred when dispatched, then asks for more later, that is a waste of money.
It also pays to take the time to learn how to download the fuel guide for the route you will run and see who has the best discounts. You'll be surprised what a difference there can be at different locations for the same truck stop chain located in the same state. Some may not even have a discount while another may be 75¢. Specifically not all Petro and TA stops offer good discounts, while Pilot and Flying J almost always do. Need to check before purchasing.

The day you get loaded they will Advance you about half of what the load pays for the trip onto the fuel card if you want after they process the bills they will add the rest to your card or sent to a bank account you set up with them -

I use an iPad mini for my electronic logs I also download the states I will be running through from the fuel guide (each trip) and save them in iBooks for quick reference. Trying to get them on the fly can be slow depending on your internet provider -

I suppose everyone of us will manage our fuel cards a bit different. I have seen people here that live off their fuel cards. Getting cash advances and hitting the ATM at every fuel stop. I don't think that's the best way to use it but who am I to say.
I use mine for fuel and basic maint. Also emergency repairs. When I first started with Mercer I quickly needed to learn how to manage my card better. My first load with Mercer they put $2k on my card. I spent $900 on fuel that first trip. But I liked having ready $$$ available if needed. After just a couple of weeks I had $5k extra on my card. Now I take just a hair over what I will spend on fuel so that I can maintain/replenish for PMs, minor repairs, truck washes ect.
i don't feel anyone should worry about not being able to get fuel. And if you know the best states to fuel in you can save big money fast.Mr huds Thanks this. -
Is it possible to load my own funds onto the fuel card. The way I'm setting it up is getting everything going to my own account but I want to put a weekly amount on the card and just upload funds for maintenance when needed. Reason being is because I heard with the card we get discounts on fuel and parts

How much do we get charged, if anything for a rider policy ? do we have to notify them each time I take my family or friends on the truck or just pay for passenger protection and leave it at that?
