I'm thinking about moving on. Just wondering if I have to give a 2 week notice. I definitely want to leave on good terms because I've enjoyed working for Prime and want to leave the door open in case my plans don't work out.
I thought I would take my home time and then notify my fleet manager that I found another job and want to pick up one last load and then turn in the truck at the nearest terminal.
How do I gracefully terminate employment?

expect your fuel cards to be shut off immediately.

I would take my home time at the terminal and clean out truck and give notice then I would not be returning and just nicely explain I enjoyed working there and just had a better job offer at this time.
-
Okay then I will fill up the tractor before I leave for the terminal. No big deal

I wanted to clean out all my gear at home though so I don't have to haul all that stuff on the plane

If you got time off, do it then. A thread about quitting has been around here for some time.
But as for me, once I quit a job,. I do not go back. Only Once I did, and that was a mistake. Things were never the same or will not be the same when you quit. Some people cower down to ask for their old job back, I don't not since I learned my lesson. Once gone, stay gone, so what I do is up and quit.
They will "notice" in 2 weeks I ain't there no more.CaliforniaJellyroll, austinmike, NavigatorWife and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yeah..its nothing against prime that they may shut-off your fuel cards its just standard oper procedure,i only mention it because some people keep their paychecks and other money on the fuel card then are surprised when they cant access their money..NavigatorWife Thanks this.

I've had 2 jobs in my life that I returned to. One guy offered me more money and a different position, the other I needed a short term solution and I hadn't burned my bridges when I left there. Always pays to do the right thing, though in trucking you're rarely missed - life rolls along without you.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

Life rolls on is true to a fact.
Which is why I roll on, away from an employer. To me, I look at it this way, some one leaves an employer for "good cause", no matter what that is. One wants to go a step ahead. To go back to a former employer (to me) say's one is taking 3 steps backwards.
I did it once, that was a mistake, I'll not do it again. -
Kinda like going back with that ex-girlfriend . . .Shaggy Thanks this.
