By the same token, the broker should not be calling around other trucks posted to see if they will run cheaper. Say you're talking to the broker, agree on a rate then he says, 'let me call the shipper and see if they still have it' when what he is really doing is calling other trucks and fishing for a cheaper rate. Then he finds one and calls back and says 'sorry that load is already gone...'

I personally have never done anything like that, nor do I have time to play such games. But, if they are doing such things perhaps you should find better brokers, and try to build better relationships. Why in the world would you ever do business with a broker that plays that game? I certainly wouldn't, just like I never work with drivers that fall off my loads

    To All and Both Sides
All the responses to my reply, I truly respect and understand totally what both sides are sayn. Trust me, I have experience over the years all types of situation with brokers calling me and me calling brokers and me receiving the response I got from them.

Let me say that, its just understanding why some operators take the actions that they when switching loads, as well as how operators feel over all when out here tryn to survive and provide. Actions might be the time, but sometimes its with reasons.

I do agree that when operator does that, it will hurt the ratings of the company, the trust in the operator and long term relationships. We both need to agree also, that it also hurts the operator as well. We as operators chose the profession as a profitable career as well, so not classifying all brokers, but some operate with techniques that can drive a operator completely out of business.

In short term, we both need to be mindful of both sides in reasons why we do what we do, at the end of the day we all do what we do for a reason (Profit), but before we react or be quick to judge and/or damage one another, lets try to understand where each other is coming from and if we can work the bad to get to good, lets make it even better and as a operator, u must understand that sometimes u got or might have to take bad just like a good, but relationships are forever. Business growth is what we both need to be successful.

Actually that's not what I am doing at all. I am trying to explain to you, you need to build good relationships with brokers. That's a given. Like I said before, my spouse is also a driver. So I do understand how it is for O/O. When Broker begins playing games, that's when you know you should just move on and not take the load. We are all in it to make money. However, there are days I lose money just like Drivers. NO, I don't like losing money, but, then again, if it's Company I have a contract with I have to take the good with the bad. Never did I mention it was your fault. I simply asked the question, why would you take a load from a broker that is playing games. This isn't a blame game, it's a serious question. If you read back on this thread you will see my comments regarding drivers. I treat my drivers very well. Like in my previous post "we wouldn't have a job if it weren't for the drivers." This is the motto I work from. That said, most brokers do not have driving experience. Which can makes it difficult for drivers calling on boards. Get to know your brokers, see if you make a match with them. Ask a lot of questions, there are some pretty unsavory brokers out there and I for one am not and will not play their games. I personally don't have time for it. However, my spouse is responsible for whatever load he commits to. Good , bad or ugly. Mostly my spouse hauls for me. Heavy99 My drivers are NOT going hungry and I do my best to make them happy. I use both Company trucks and outside carriers. It's the same for all. I am not in the least bit worried about losing drivers that haul for me or the reputation of the Company I work for. Drivers know they can trust me and I work hard for them. It's not about you as a driver it is about the broker and how they treat you. They must begin to realize they make their income off of good drivers and should treat them with respect. My drivers will not put up with nonsense from any broker. If you have a gut feeling the broker is yanking you around don't take the load. It's not worth the headache. Again, I was not placing blame on you, just choose your relationships better. The more questions you ask, the better you will understand how that particular broker works. Build relationships from there. However, I am always up front when a driver calls about my loads. If it's a good load I tell em. If it's an ugly load I have no problem saying it's an ugly load. So, if a driver falls off my load, they will not be used again. Our agencies have a policy that once a driver falls off a load (that we could have put on one of our own trucks) and we lose a customer over it, it's game over for that particular driver. Now if it happens with several drivers from the same Company we nix the Company. It's no different than drivers that won't call certain agents because of past experiences. It works both ways. So, find brokers you can trust and build from there.

Roger that. The orientation has potential for improvement. I didn't appreciate being left hanging towards the end of the process.

Yeah, driver orientation is really poor right now in my opinion, but that should change in less than two weeks' time.

Can't tell you how excited I am for that to happen.

    Roknric Thanks this.

How long do you think it will be before the load board is ready?
