Dang spell correct gets me in all kind's of trouble

 

Your coordinator offers loads to you and you CAN refuse the load or accept the load or pick one off the load board. Didn't notice that the computer was adding a t . sorry bout that

 

It's not as easy as just pick your own load because if you're in line and it's several drivers of you and they want the load that you pick you'll sit... so let's clear that up for the new hires... it's not a free for all where there are a bunch of loads and whoever gets it gets it.... that's not how it is here.... but it should be but that's another topic

 

Thanks, you guys. I just got confused. I've worked where a DM (insert name) offers loads--and then you catch them hiding loads, etc...the games people play. And, others trying to get me to take loads because that's what they needed, and when you turn down the load, they get miffed because you would rather DH home than run for peanuts. Then, you get calls from the ops manager asking why you are quitting, when all you said was you were going home. LOL, the stories we can tell.

 

Agents will call and off you loads too. Everyone an agent has called me about has been loads they just want moved. i tell em no and move on

 

I wouldn't just say no right away, usually if they are calling trucks the load has to go. That's when YOU give them a price. You are potentially leaving good money on the table.

Just to clarify we can pick our own loads 100% of the time with or without the coordinator. As far as only using mercer board we're handcuffed to it because there's always freight available. On a absolute rare occasion there isn't any freight (pause) not freight you wouldn't haul but general freight period. Then you could broker a load but that's slim to none because it's always freight within 500 miles of where you're at. As far as the first unload first offered, I like it now that I'm slowly learning how it works and also getting advice from spyder. You can't sit around and hope it's gonna last all day. If you see it and want it commit to it. If you're not dispatched in 30-45 min call the agent and have them take you off if you see something else you want and the shipper is dragging their feet. I've done that. What I try to do is put a week together. Once I get better then I could do like skateboard and spyder and have two weeks booked out

 

What sucks is when they jump on your first offer and your sitting there thinking dang I could've gotten more. The way I word it is "I need to get close $2500 to haul this load" which if I get $2000 I'm good but I shot high just incase the shipper is desperate. Just an example I shoot for $500 extra than what I'll settle for.
