I'm a heavy haul driver and last weekend I took 4 days off rode the Harley down to cali from Portland on my way home I was right behind an accident a pickup pulling an rv. Trailer flipped over and was blocking all the lanes on the i5 I zigged and zigged my way past 6 cars and I could see people running and shouting getting up to the pickup. I got one look at the faces of the people helping and I knew it was not good so I zigged and zigged my way past some debris and took off leaving the tragedy behind me. The reason I do this is because I go into shock really easy and I don't do well in emergency situations. My question is am I in the right by not getting involved.?

    lots of character Thanks this.

My opinion is you already knew the limits of your capabilities and made a decision, based on it. Other motorists (As you stated) were already in the process of rendering aid. Better that you not be a liability rather than an asset, in such a situation, that might have compounded an already serious situation.

Just keep in mind, if such a tragic incident involves yourself, directly or even indirectly, regardless of the carnage involved, you have a legal obligation to remain.

My guess is you don't do well with Horror Movies either......

I guess not since there were alot of others to offer aid. You didn't break any laws I don't think, however, there's always something you can do. What if your cell phone was the only one on the scene that had enough signal to call 911?

The laws vary by state in regards to leaving the scene of you witness the accident and the amount of aid you're required to attempt to give.

I care not what the law says even if I was the only one on the scene there is nothing I can do except call 911 I'm not ruining my life seeing something horrible.

If the only one on scene not doing all I could to help would ruin me more than anything I may have to see. In a different way of course.

Well driver, hope for your sake you're not ever on the other side of such a situation, and have a single witness be more concerned about his own nightmares then someone else's LIFE.....

Sheesh.....Great example of this brave new "All About Me" society.
