i been trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with this pos ive had for a week other than the fact yea its a maxx force.. but took it up Powell mountain in west Virginia on 19 and it made it to the summit after 30 min of fighting and it dieing twice and finally when it got to the top, died again and wouldn't start. popped the hood and the fuel filter was nearly dry. I had 44k in the box and she was huffin like a pig all the way up the hill like a sick puppy. most the way up, it would have some power, then fall on its face again an repeat. no, i wasn't low on fuel, over 1/2 tank. once primed again it ran where i had to go. it was a 5 mile 6% grade but Ive pulled em before in other trucks just fine. is the maxx force that big of a pos it cant pull a hill without having a heart attack?
2012 prostar Maxxforce 13 wont stay primed on steep grades

I drove both a 13 and a 14 MF 475. Both were mules when working but the dam emissions stuff killed them . The 13 gave only some issues but the 14 kept frying fuses etc, derate, limp etc. It was all fly by wire so when it died.....you lost everything right now.
I recall rolling in the hammer at 75 with 185 bbls of crude when the 14"s dash lit up like a xmas tree and the party started.....no warning or nothing, just dead. I kept the clutch out to keep rolling the engine for utilities so I made it safely to the shoulder only needing new britches but I pity the automatic guys. That wont end well.
Truck was so bad I refused to drive it anymore. Gave up my new 14 Eagle for a older Volvo.....tough pill to swallow on commission but the 14 couldn't stay off the hook or away from the dealer.

sounds like a bad fuel pump. When you shut the engine off, do you hear the 'buzzzzzzzzz' for 10 or so seconds? Check your relays and fuses and see if one is blown. This thing is like a Cummins ISX, it has a low pressure supply pump and a high pressure pump for the injectors, one is an electric pump and the other is a mechanical pump. If you hear the 'buzzzz', the mechanical pump may not be working. Either that or you have a clogged pickup in the tank or if your truck has them, the fuel shutoff rods got pulled (some companies have shutoff valves installed with little handles you can pull located over the drivers side fuel tank.

ill look for the shutoffs but I'm more leaning towards a weak fuel pump myself. she runs fine empty or very light.... just acts up loaded heavy. i got lucky and unloaded a day early so least she can make it out of the west Virginia mountains. Ill keep this current if it throws another tantrum. which,,, it probably will...

Should be logging codes for low fuel pressure, but it may sucking enough air to cause performance issues. Check fuel filter o-rings, bowl seals. All the fuel line fittings from the tank to the engine use plastic quick connect with orings for seals. Make sure they are in good shape. Also, the fittings at the tanks that the fuel lines connect to are sealed with orings at the tank. Make sure they are good and tight. When those orings fail you usually get fuel equalizing problems.

I know some do, but cant seem to be able to on this truck, do the maxx forces display codes on the dash or do you have to take it to a shop with a computer to grab em?

The warning light will come on if there are codes. Actually, being able to read codes is a option than can be included when ordering the truck. 99.9% of customer do not know about it or do not want the extra expense and don't get it. You would have to get it scanned.

it's a $170 fix if truck does not have fault code reader .Check out ScangaugeD

I have a 2012 international with a maxxforce engine, if I shut it down it doesn't stay primed, it looses the fuel in the fuel/water separator. Even when it's running it won't take the smallest hill, probably go up hill with 13mph
