I wonder if current trailers will be lengthened like a lot of places did when they raised the length from 45' to 48', or if it will happen through new trailer replacement. -
This is how they get around paying the drivers more. Granted pay is going up but when you lengthen the trailer and increase the payload, the driver is essentially being paid the same or less than before.
These lengths and weights are putting the driver pay increase at critical mass, the next alternative is to hire drivers from the 3rd world so the fatcat truck company owners can keep making their billions. -
What a mess that will be if a relatively large percentage of cmv's become doubles. Truckstops aren't set up to deal with the few doubles that come through now. Many truckstops have nothing but back-in parking. And then shippers and receivers will have to make room for all the dropping and hooking. Darn sure better come with a great pay raise to put up with all that hooey.
skinnytrucker Thanks this. -
Another thought I had was to wonder if this will lead to a return of cabovers in the North American market. Most manufacturers still make cabovers for the global market. If demand increased, it probably wouldn't take much for them to start selling some here.

There are those trips when I could use a 57' trailer, like last week.
