Texas is ok in the summer and SUCKS in the winter. Same as every southern state. Just to many guys are running south of 20 to avoid the winter up north. it's just simple economics, more trucks than loads drives the rates down. This is industry wide, not specific to Mercer.

I'm not sure anyone can, or will tell you what to do. I'm not with Mercer, but, I know flatbed freight slows down in the winter. (Right around the corner) I also know if it were me, I would be reluctant to start with Large truck payments, trailer payments and Learning Curve all right as freight slows down. I'm sure it can be done, just know coming in , it could get bumpy
JMOLone Ranger 13, Windy M Jenner and gjcarr03 Thank this. -
I ran with a guy for bout a week that lives west of Dallas and he does pretty good. He runs 1-2 weeks then home. But he's been a O/O for 20 years and haven't had a truck payment in 10 years so him having low overhead helps. It's a lot of us guys that live in dead areas a still do ok. Best get with @Razorwyr on advice on how to stay afloat. He's always positive so I'm sure he's happygjcarr03 Thanks this.

Thanks for the responses! So if he's willing to run up north in the winter and just come back down for home time....lol. He won't like it, but he'll do it if it means putting food on the table! Plus, he's used to running up north, pulling tankers, so I'm sure he can make it work.
So yeah, I see it as Mercer is the bigger risk right off the bat, but with the bigger reward once we get past the learning curve...and winter. Bruenger will be more consistent, so less risk, but less reward and it's not Mercer. I really, really like the comradery and family type atmosphere that Mercer seems to have. -
Im leased my truck on to another carrier. I held out as long as I could. -
Who did you end up going with? Just curious.
-
R and R Express poweronly. They are out of Elkhart, IN.gjcarr03 Thanks this. -
How much freight moves out of FloridA? Im thinking about moving there but i dont wanna have to run dead for hundreds of miles just to get home.
-
Little. And what does move is cheap cheap cheap. I normally am home over a week so am high on the board and can occasionally get a decent load, but just as often I'm bouncing all the way to Savannah
-
Ask high on the board? Is the load board on the mercer-town website accurate? It says it ipdates every 30mins.
