You see a lot of ads for regional jobs saying you get weekends home.

Being a newbie I gotta ask, do you really get two full days off or is it more of a take your 34 and we will see you real soon?

Any chance of the recruiter being honest if you ask? :)

i get home at or about 5-6 Am on Sats, and do not have to leave out again until around 8 PM on mondays. but i run a dedicated account, same customer, same stops, and as a result, i can be done most nights with-in 9 hours. i rarely go past 45 hours per week.

i also get paid a "salary" which i really like, rather than to bust my hump getting miles.

when i did a regional run, i was still home on Sat mornings, but had to leave out Sunday nights, so not a full 34 hour reset.

i do believe to cover thier butts, many recruiters may say, "most weekends" you will be home

Most of the time they get you home fri afternoon and want you to leave sun afternoon. Which sucks in my opinion. You can find companies that will let you have all weekend. If a company doesn't stick to what they told you its simple. Just find a new company.

not everything is always black and white. there are shades of gray in this industry. sometimes you get home, sometimes you don't.

try and find a new job each time some company does not get you home. you'll be filling out applications with about 100 sheets of extra paper to list all the employers.

Remember, nobody can predict your time home 100%, that's all up to the trucking job, there's time ur coming home on your last run but brokedown, accident, heavy traffic or mother nature slowing you down. Nothing is 100% gurnturee

Mother nature and traffic both are common that will either slow u down u making u have to stay out 2 weeks instead of 1

Most companies get you home long enough for a 34 hour reset then want you back out as soon as it completes.

Im not saying if something happens just quit. I am saying if the company promises you a full weekends home and they only give you a 34s than you need to start looking for a different job.

Indeed, most trucking company "weekends" = 34 hr reset. Reason being, you are in possession of a rather expensive asset of theirs (truck and trailer) and they want it moving as much as possible to generate revenue. Some companies will even want you to slip-seat the truck if you take too many days off.

It's just the nature of the truckin' beast.

Having been at 2 "home weekend" or "home weekly" companies I've found it varies greatly depending on what's going on how much time you're actually home. My previous company ( 3 years ) went from home weekends to weekly once they gained a lot of accounts with weekend drops. Sometimes it was worth it to be home during the week it made it easier to get things done that I'd otherwise have to had left late to take care of.

If they've got a lot of stuff to move you're home 34. If freight is slack you'll be in 48+

Where I am now at a private fleet ( 1.5 years now ) we have more stuff to move than we have drivers. I'm usually home 42-44hrs every weekend not counting drive time to the yard. One good thing is most of the loads we start the week on have pretty wide drop windows so we can dictate when we leave to start the week to some degree
