Be a company driver for a couple of years, then figure out if you want to lease a headache.

After several attempts to try and word this funny without being mean I just can't. Let me throw out a few questions that need answering. What are the monthly payments for the truck? What rate does the company pay? What is the age of the truck? Can the company keep you moving 2500+ miles a week? Are you prepared for 6months straight on the road to make sure you don't fall behind?
We can't tell you what the terms of a lease are without at least knowing the company. That's in the agreement that you sign in blood when you really want something. The answer is usually no. Sometimes you have the option to buy it when they decide to sell it. You have to manage you're own money when leasing. They usually supply specific accounts so they can bank it themselves but at the end of the day you have to keep track of the pennies. With great emphasis on pennies. You are also no longer a "company driver" gotta get your own health insurance etc.
Really there is a lot more to it than just paying X per month and expecting Y in return. These stories usually don't end well and I did pretty good as a L/O and still went back to company because I eventually found more money with a different carrier. The one take away was I have the knowledge of how to not go completely broke doing it if it were my truck and know what something costs to fix if it gets torn up. Other than that there isn't much positive I can say. -
Truck co's "lease" trucks all day long. Truck drivers lease trucks once or twice in their lifetime. (usually). Knowledge in this business will get you everywhere. Good luck

There are a FEW decent l/p companies around, but they are very few. I would avoid it if I were you. Do the company driver gig for as long as it takes to get some money together and start looking at how to buy a truck on your own. The l/p part of the deal is not necassarily the problem. The biggest problem is that these companies are writing the contracts with every single line in their favor, throwing dirt cheap rates on the l/p truck and taking the driver for every penny they can before he bankrupts. What's worse? There doesn't seem to be any end to the supply of uninformed people willing to take the financial bath being offered. That's why you get all the negativity on here.
