When I moved to Iowa I brought my mom's 1989 Plymouth Colt Vista with me. when I sold it I had no problem finding a buyer for a car that had spent most of its life in the New Mexico desert.

OK, let me get this straight? You've been driving for a total of months, and you want to buy a truck? Sorry but that's not a wise decision in my opinion, as success is possible, just rare, best of luck

^^^ It's not rocket science to own and operate a truck. Not everybody needs to drive for years to be able to run a successful business.
-
Rather dumb question why would you want to buy a truck now? Keep driving your friends truck on his dime.
I would pass on this truck, no matter what. There is something wring with it if it is 30k and under 500k in miles. It may have been abused hauling garbage and there has to Be a specific reason for the sale.
To many red flags here, there are enough trucks chasing owners in the world than owners chasing trucks.
The buying process is easy, you start with all the records, and if there are none, walk away. Then you got through the other stuff, like an oil analysis, ECM dump (a total one, NOT the summary) and have it inspected (not a dot inspection but a good one) from a mechanic who is more than a parts changer. Then drive the thing to see if it fits you.
NEVER NEVER BUY A TRUCK WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THAT PROCESS.
By the way I hate cascadias, I drive one one and a while and it to me seems cheap and like an fl50. -
The odometer screen may have been replaced, when that happens, it resets to 0000000. To get the ecm miles, turn on the key and cycle thru the menu. The company I use to work for had a bunch of these model trucks that we're like that. The problem is, the company asked us to write down odometer miles...actual miles, not the adjusted (replacement screen) miles.

I would never own an ACERT Cat. Columbia wouldn't be my first choice of truck.... it wouldn't be my last choice, either.

I have been to busy to check the forums and i never thought more people would reply, so to update i turned down the one with cat engine, i purchased a 07 Columbia with a Detroit Diesel series 60 with 550K mil, i had it checked by a friend who knows trucks and ensured it was ok, well i have been driving it for almost a month now and no problems so far. I would like to thank you all for your help.
