This is how I mount mine. Yes you download the maps for offline usage, either the whole US and Canada, just the US or you can get just certain regions of the US. They also have some European maps. If you go for the whole US or the US and Canada you're going to download just over 2 gig.

Ram makes mounts for tablets, the iPad mini four (cellular model) has the gps, you can keep data turned off, the software is downloaded and doesn't require data connection but iPad wifi only model doesn't have the gps built in.

I have the CoPilot on a 10" Motorola Xoom. That is a big screen. I don't have it mounted. I drive a Prostar and it has 2 cup holders and an ashtray holder just in front of the gear shift. I took out the ashtray (don't smoke) and I folded a sturdy piece of cardboard into an "L" shape and put in the hole where the ashtray use to be. I then took an empty 1 liter plastic water and squished it down a little and put it in the left cup holder. Those 2 items combine to form a holder to keep my tablet from sliding around.

There is no way I would want to put that sucker on the windshield, it would cover way to much space and block too much forward visibility. I have considered getting a mount with a long neck and attach the suction cup base low on the windshield and let the long neck take the holder to the edge of the dash so the tablet would hang off of the edge of the dash. It would most likely cover the cubby hole on the dash and maybe 1 of the rear axle temp gauges. I think it would be low enough not to interfere with windshield visibility.

Motor Carrier Atlas and then google on my smart phone once I'm in a city, if I haven't been to the drop before.

    How's that navigo working out?

I looked into it at one time. But I'm stuck on copilot.

used to be illegal to block your field of vision with all that crap.

    it still is unsafe.

seen some guys with 3 or 4 things on the windshield.
