Depending if you're a neat freak like me, a 12 volt vacuum is a nice gift. Helps keep your truck clean when you have some downtime. Dash cam and a CB radio also make great gifts.

I used a cordless vacuum my last few years OTR. When I got bored waiting at a Walmart DC I would get it out and start getting crap up off of the sleeper, under the mattress and behind the seats in addition to the floor area where my feet were. Another place was the area where my windshield met my dash and around the inside parts of both my doors. I could even get dust up from the bottom edges of my instrument panels. Those things are not that expensive and if used will make the inside of your truck look nice.

Crete actually has several trucks with company installed dash cams and has no issue with you putting your own in

Most companies probably wouldn't say anything about a dash cam, I don't figure. A lot of them are installing the spy cams and a lot of drivers think (and shills preach) that somehow these will benefit anyone other than the company.
I'm thinking about trying this:GumboSnow Thanks this. -
The GoPro is nice and definitely has applications outside the truck.
A shame such an innocuous post had to have drama introduced.
The milk of human kindness appears to have gone sour.......GumboSnow Thanks this. -
I use a cheap no name headset I got on eBay. Works great.
I think I'm gonna get my self one of those garmin dezl gps's for xmas.BuckeyeKev and GumboSnow Thank this. -
I sure would not comment on your personal life, but how does the rest of your family drop hints? Maybe leaving post-its around I just wouldn't know. Knowing about certain items maybe you've found the right site which I can not help with. But what I do know is this. Why would you want to take one of your senses away while driving a truck. I've caught a few problems by sound. A tire coming apart, maybe a drive line just about to go. And many others. It's a sense you have to give warning to you and you want to mask it? That makes no sense to me sorry.
GumboSnow Thanks this. -
Thank you for your honest and valuable feedback. I do not intend to wear the headset unless communication is needed but would like to get the correct device rather than one that does not eliminate the background noises very well. I really do appreciate your advice and hope I get the chance to interact with many more drivers like yourself. -
When I drove I used a Samsung smart phone and a cheap Bluetooth earpiece. I'm with gashauler on this. When I actually spoke on the phone and that was very rare I used it that way. Things like a universal joint can make a slight sound beginning a few thousand miles before it goes. Sometimes not always you can detect by sound a tire especially a steer tire makes when its about to separate. When your in urban streets you also need to hear a car horn. Something as simple as brakes can and will put out a slight sound something is wrong. You should never ever drive any vehicle with your sense of sound covered up with loud music or such but that goes especially for a CMV.
