Camera? Not on my watch

Well I've actually had a couple previous employers that cared enough to send me a birthday card so there's some hope for humanity just yet..

How long have you been driving ? Just Curious ....

 

Can you imagine some of the footage they have looked at? Man can't imagine how many times they would see my Birthday suite lmao

 

The purpose of driver facing cameras is to take the liability off of the company and slap it on the driver.

Can you or anyone provide a link to a news article of a driver who was the only one held financially responsible? I mean I get the point but it's not going to work, companies are still going to pay.

 

By showing the 'company' wasn't in the truck forcing the driver to be unsafe?

If anything I could see it working the other way. Not sure how long footage is kept but let's say a driver, texting, runs into a line of stopped traffic at highway speeds. Now let's say a lawyer uncovers previous events showing this same driver distracted. It could easily be argued that the 'company' was negligent in not taking strong enough action to ensure this driver exercised proper care and control of his vehicle.

 

It hasn't happened yet that we know of (maybe it has but the crashes are not high profile enough for us to know about truck companies shifting liablility to the driver with the facing cam) but imagine if the Walmart driver had a camera filming him at the 8 seconds before impact of Tracy Morgan's limo, Walmart would have saved tens of millions of dollars in settlements. As it is now, Walmart's own insurance companies are balking at reimbursing the settlements.

 

Just curious, how?

 

If Walmart had a camera on the dude they'd be asking why he was allowed to drive in that condition.

And that's how we progress from triggered events to random monitoring.

 

The driver has to be doing something wrong at the moment of the crash. In this case the driver was exceeding the speed limit in a workzone. Company could say in court "look, we did all we could to provide a safe mode to deliver our product but the driver broke the law, sue him not us, we are not culpable."
